HANA Database Migration: Handling Incompatible Changes to Existing TablesHANA Database Migration: Handling Incompatible Changes to Existing TablesThe question schema evolution exists for, asked plainly: how do you restructure a table in a production system that already holds live data. Incompatible changes are the ones CAP's own alter path will not make, which is where this starts.Sekar Somasundaram, published 2025-04-16
SAP CAP Recent Enhancements the HANA Dev Should Know AboutSAP CAP Recent Enhancements the HANA Dev Should Know AboutThomas Jung walks through CAP features for HANA database developers that landed through late 2021: doc comments in the data model (CDL comments propagated into generated database objects via the package.json cdsc.docs compiler option), and schema evolution reaching general availability in the November 2021 release, using the @cds.persistence.journal annotation and cds.hana.journal settings to generate incremental hdbmigrationtable migration scripts instead of dropping and recreating tables. It also walks through two features outside those two: window functions in view column definitions, added in the December 2021 release, and a beta assert_integrity setting that generates database foreign-key constraints from 1:1 associations and compositions.published 2022-02-15
SAP Developer New, July 3rd 2026SAP Developer New, July 3rd 2026A "Did You Know" segment in this SAP Developer News video walks through schema evolution: CAP's ability to add a new field to an entity, or make a compatible change to an existing one, then redeploy the model with no data loss or manual migration. The rest of the July 2026 episode covers that month's Developer Challenge, a SAP HANA Cloud Q2 release announcement and a UI5 survey call, none explained in substance here.published 2026-07-02

Part 8 of a Japanese-language series deploys the Python backend and SAPUI5 chat UI built in earlier parts to SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry Runtime: the backend's manifest.yaml declares its buildpack, memory and start command for cf push, while the UI's MTA project is built with mbt build and uploaded with cf deploy, then has its ENDPOINT constant repointed at the live API's route. It closes with adding the deployed HTML5 app to SAP Build Work Zone, standard edition through Channel Manager's content sync, Content Explorer and a new Site Directory site.Ryota_Ito, published 2025-06-16
A 25x faster mta.yaml build for SAP CAP Node.js projectsA 25x faster mta.yaml build for SAP CAP Node.js projectsOne change to the build descriptor, arrived at after discarding the obvious alternatives — the author reports trying shell scripts, npm caching and offline installs, swapping npm for pnpm, and cds build --no-clean, all of which helped and none of which was this. The value is as much in the record of what was ruled out as in the trick itself.published 2025-03-17
A modern workflow for SAP Cloud Integration with CAP and Azure DevOpsA modern workflow for SAP Cloud Integration with CAP and Azure DevOpsCAP used to build tooling rather than an application: the development workflow for Cloud Integration is limited to what the Integration Suite offers, so the author puts a CAP service and Azure DevOps around it. An unusual use of the framework, and the reason to read it.marcel_schork62, published 2023-06-27

Deploy a Full-Stack CAP Application in SAP BTPDeploy a Full-Stack CAP Application in SAP BTPFive tutorials taking the Developer's Guide application from running locally to running on BTP — preparation, the deployment itself, role assignment, and integration with Build Work Zone. Published twice, once for Cloud Foundry and once for Kyma, with the same shape and different descriptors; indexed once, because the second is the first with the runtime swapped.SAP

Event Driven SAP CAP on Kyma with Agentic AI and UI Auto RefreshEvent Driven SAP CAP on Kyma with Agentic AI and UI Auto RefreshA prototype, described as one: a plain CAP application made to react to external events on Kyma, with an agent in the loop and the UI refreshing itself rather than being reloaded. Short — it reports what was built and why, not how to rebuild it.Shahid, published 2025-12-01
Extend SAP SuccessFactors on SAP BTP with CAP - Deploy to SAP HANA CloudExtend SAP SuccessFactors on SAP BTP with CAP - Deploy to SAP HANA CloudThe deployment instalment of the author's SuccessFactors extension series — the project already exists and the imported service is already modelled, so this is only the move onto HANA Cloud. Depends on the two posts before it and says so.ale_biagi, published 2022-03-29
From Concept to action: Hands-On with the CAP Operator and the Partner Reference ApplicationFrom Concept to action: Hands-On with the CAP Operator and the Partner Reference ApplicationThe CAP Operator applied to a real application rather than a sample of its own — SAP's Partner Reference Application, taken from plugin integration through containerisation to custom resources. The transition to CRDs is the part that repays attention: it is where the deployment stops being an mta and becomes Kubernetes.ChristianWeiss, published 2026-05-21

HTML5.Timeout for CAP destinations in mta.yaml longer than defaultHTML5.Timeout for CAP destinations in mta.yaml longer than defaultA page and a half about one property that has to be raised when a CAP destination is slower than the default allows — and it now opens with its own correction, dated October 2025, that the property is called timeout rather than HTML5.Timeout, credited to a commenter. The correction is why it is worth keeping.NilsJanen, published 2022-11-09
Joule Studioがリリースされたので早速CAPアプリを自然言語で操作するカスタムスキルを構築してみたJoule Studioがリリースされたので早速CAPアプリを自然言語で操作するカスタムスキルを構築してみたA walkthrough of building a custom Joule Studio skill on a CAP bookshop app: cds add sample and cds add mta scaffold the project and its deployment descriptor, cds compile srv/ --to xsuaa generates the role template behind the @requires: 'admin' check on AdminService from the SAP Authorization and Trust Management service (XSUAA), and mbt build packages the app for deployment to the SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry Runtime. The skill reaches the deployed OData API through the SAP Destination service, configured with the OAuth2 Client Credentials grant using the client ID, secret and token endpoint from the app's XSUAA service key, so Joule answers a natural-language question about a book by its ID.takayuki_tanaka, published 2025-07-30
Kyma Evolution: Transforming SAP Kyma into a tailor-made SaaS Platform for sbs extensionsKyma Evolution: Transforming SAP Kyma into a tailor-made SaaS Platform for sbs extensionsWritten by an extensibility expert building against Cloud ERP under clean core, and it treats Kyma as something to shape rather than to adopt — what has to be added to the runtime before it is a SaaS platform for CAP extensions. The Partner Reference Application post is the hands-on sequel.ChristianWeiss, published 2026-02-03

SAP CAP With Prostgres Serice in BTPSAP CAP With Prostgres Serice in BTPA step-by-step walkthrough of a CAP bookshop project on @cap-js/postgres, provisioning PostgreSQL on SAP BTP, hyperscaler option's trial plan through mta.yaml, building the MTA archive and deploying it to Cloud Foundry by hand, then inspecting the deployed database with pgAdmin over an SSH tunnel. It updates an earlier post by Mike Zaschka on the same topic to the package CAP now ships by default, though the manual build-and-deploy sequence it shows predates cds up folding those steps into one command by a day.satya-dev, published 2025-03-30

The Future of Continuous Delivery for SAP Cloud SDK and SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelThe Future of Continuous Delivery for SAP Cloud SDK and SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelA direction note on the Continuous Delivery Pipeline that Cloud SDK and CAP projects were expected to start from, written by someone on the inside as its future was being decided. Introducing eslint-plugin-better-cap-config an ESLint plugin to improve CAP configurationIntroducing eslint-plugin-better-cap-config an ESLint plugin to improve CAP configurationThe author's own announcement, and precise about scope: today it catches deprecated key/value entries in CAP's JSON configuration, and the ambition is that it grows into best practices, suggestions and autofixes the way any ESLint plugin does. The implementation detail worth knowing is that it uses modern ESLint's JSON language support rather than a generic parser, which is what makes linting a configuration file rather than source code work at all.published 2025-09-08
Seed dataCommunity only
Add useful Extensions to Dev spaces in SAP Business Application StudioAdd useful Extensions to Dev spaces in SAP Business Application StudioStarts from the point capire makes — that CAP is editor-agnostic and BAS is the preconfigured option — and then does the thing that undoes preconfiguration: adds two extensions to a dev space for initialising data in a CAP application, with the uninstall procedure as well as the install. The uninstall half is what makes it worth keeping.showkath_naseem, published 2022-11-13
Avoiding Data Loss When Loading Initial Data with CSV Files in CAPAvoiding Data Loss When Loading Initial Data with CSV Files in CAPcds add tiny-sample gives you a CSV in db/data and it loads on deploy, which looks like a way to seed a productive application. The catch, stated plainly: change the CSV or the schema and HANA is reinitialised from the file, taking whatever users had entered with it.MioYasutake, published 2025-09-15
CAP: Consume External Service - Part 1CAP: Consume External Service - Part 1Builds a CAP Node.js service from scratch that consumes the public NorthWind OData V4 service: cds import turns its EDMX metadata into a CSN model under srv/external, and a CatalogService projects Products from it with a custom READ handler that runs the request through cds.connect.to('NorthWind'). Shows the same projection working two ways — against a CSV mocked under srv/external/data with the <service>-<entity>.csv naming the framework expects, then against the real service once credentials.url is added to the CAP configuration and @sap-cloud-sdk/http-client is installed — and defers routing that connection through the Cloud Foundry Destinations service to the next post in the series.published 2020-05-26
Handling CSV Data Deployment in CAP HDI Without Data LossHandling CSV Data Deployment in CAP HDI Without Data LossThe same trap from the HDI side: .hdbtabledata hands the container full ownership of the data, so the next deployment overwrites the table from the file. Build a Business Application Using CAP for JavaBuild a Business Application Using CAP for JavaThe Java counterpart to the Node.js path — eight tutorials, around two and a half hours, from a generated project to a running service. Worth having indexed separately rather than folded in with the Node.js one: the runtimes diverge most in exactly the places a first application touches, and following the wrong path is a slow way to find that out.SAP
Build a Business Application Using CAP for Node.jsBuild a Business Application Using CAP for Node.jsThe Node.js introduction path, and the shorter of the pair — the runtime most CAP writing assumes, which is why the Java path exists separately.SAP
Develop a Full-Stack CAP Application Following SAP BTP Developer's GuideDevelop a Full-Stack CAP Application Following SAP BTP Developer's GuideThe eight-part path SAP's own Developer's Guide prescribes: a CAP service, Fiori Elements over it, custom logic, authorization, tests, and the preparation deployment needs. It is the closest thing to an official answer to 'what does a whole CAP application look like', which is why it sits under reference applications rather than under any one of the capabilities it touches.SAP
Extending SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 Using CAPExtending SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 Using CAPAn extension target that does not run on BTP at all — Sales and Service Cloud V2 sits directly on hyperscalers — so the separation between core and extension is enforced rather than encouraged.
