Part 8 of a Japanese-language series deploys the Python backend and SAPUI5 chat UI built in earlier parts to SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry Runtime: the backend's manifest.yaml declares its buildpack, memory and start command for cf push, while the UI's MTA project is built with mbt build and uploaded with cf deploy, then has its ENDPOINT constant repointed at the live API's route. It closes with adding the deployed HTML5 app to SAP Build Work Zone, standard edition through Channel Manager's content sync, Content Explorer and a new Site Directory site.Ryota_Ito, published 2025-06-16
A 25x faster mta.yaml build for SAP CAP Node.js projectsA 25x faster mta.yaml build for SAP CAP Node.js projectsOne change to the build descriptor, arrived at after discarding the obvious alternatives — the author reports trying shell scripts, npm caching and offline installs, swapping npm for pnpm, and cds build --no-clean, all of which helped and none of which was this. The value is as much in the record of what was ruled out as in the trick itself.published 2025-03-17

Health checksUnmapped
#BTP #SAPCAP: Quirky Nuggets (N05-N06)#BTP #SAPCAP: Quirky Nuggets (N05-N06)On SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry Runtime, a one-shot PostgreSQL db-deployer app can be restarted by the platform's default port-type health check inside its 60-second timeout, re-running the deploy and duplicating data in the PostgreSQL database; setting health-check-type to process or http, via cf commands or the app's mta.yaml parameters, avoids it. In CAP, a remote service's entities are imported and consumed through cds.connect.to and queried via a projection, but its functions and actions cannot be projected: they must be redefined in the consuming service's own interface, with the handler forwarding the call to the remote proxy.published 2023-07-27

It walks through OAuth 2.0 client-credentials authentication and the generated client's Jobs API, listing, creating and reading jobs with their cron schedules, and lists what the service's error statuses (400, 401, 404, 409, 429, 503) mean to a caller. SAP Job Scheduling Service: Set Job Run Status with the REST API and Node.jsSAP Job Scheduling Service: Set Job Run Status with the REST API and Node.jsWalks through recovering a stuck asynchronous job run in SAP Job Scheduling service: when a triggered app fails to call back, the run stays at ACK_RECEIVED and eventually UNKNOWN, since the scheduler never assumes success or failure on its own. The fix is a Node.js script that reads a downloaded service key, gets an OAuth2 client-credentials token, and calls PUT /scheduler/jobs/{jobId}/schedules/{scheduleId}/runs/{runId} with a success/message body to set the run to FAILURE or SUCCESS by hand.DenisDuev, published 2025-08-11
LoggingSAP only
From Application Logging to Cloud Logging: Service Innovation GuideFrom Application Logging to Cloud Logging: Service Innovation GuideSAP Cloud Logging replaces SAP Application Logging service, moving each customer from a shared multitenant stack to a dedicated, fully isolated one, and this guide sets out what changes with the move: a deployment per compliance region instead of per Cloud Foundry landscape, SAML/IDP-based authentication instead of Cloud Foundry-bound auth, retention that is configurable instead of fixed at seven days, and hourly capacity-unit pricing instead of fixed-size monthly plans. It also states the deprecation timeline for logging on BTP: SAP Application Logging closes to new or renewed CPEA contracts after 2025-07-31, while contracts signed before that date keep their entitlement until their next renewal.Hariharan-Gandhi, published 2024-11-22

CAP in the age of AI #5 - agents wrap-upCAP in the age of AI #5 - agents wrap-upThe agents topic closed out on what sits around the agent rather than inside it, now that the documentation has moved into capire. The chat preview's session is persisted in the database rather than kept in memory, traces go out through @cap-js/telemetry to a self-hosted MLflow under the OpenTelemetry conventions for generative AI, and the panel is explicit that @agent reuses the MCP adapter's code programmatically without serving an MCP endpoint. It ends in the xtravels sample, where a travel agent delegates to a hotel-service sub-agent and reaches a separately started flight service over MCP through the service binding CAP resolves anyway. Earlier in the hour the same agent answers from a model running on the presenter's laptop, reached as an OpenAI-compatible endpoint.published 2026-10-02

Custom Business Logic Extensibility in CAP (CDS-Oyster)Custom Business Logic Extensibility in CAP (CDS-Oyster)A Devtoberfest 2026 session walking @sap/cds-oyster — at version 0.55, with 1.0 stated for Q4 — end to end on a multitenant xtravels, from the application developer's side and the extension developer's side. The application developer adds a submit-for-review action to the status flow and opens exactly one surface for custom code: a separate extension service marked as extensible code, holding a no-op validate action and two read-only helper entities, which the host application calls before the status change; nothing else is extensible, because the annotation defaults to false. The extension developer works in a project whose base model came from cds pull, with test data, a server.js and types from @cap-js/cds-typer added so the UI and code completion work, debugs the handler locally and pushes it as an @sap/cds-mtxs extension, after which the next request rejects a travel over the policy limit without a restart — the code having been stored as an annotation in the tenant's model and run in a Rust WebAssembly sandbox with no database connection, whose queries go back to the CAP runtime as CQL strings, which is tenant extensibility extended from fields to logic.published 2026-10-09

Extending SAP Autonomous SuiteExtending SAP Autonomous SuiteExtensibility across SAP Autonomous Suite: AI-enabled development in SAP Build solutions, the ABAP Cloud model among them, as the way extensions are designed, generated and deployed, and a direction for making extensions ready for agentic AI. The premise is the interesting part: CAP's annotation syntax is looser than ABAP CDS or EDMX — a record can be written with or without an explicit type — so the completion has to guess how verbose you want it, and this is where you tell it. Then filtering the completion list, reading the icons, ordering diagnostics by severity, and turning i18n problems on only when you want them.maryana_naboka, published 2021-10-25

First Java Cap ApplicationFirst Java Cap ApplicationA step-by-step walkthrough of a first CAP Java project: com.sap.cds:cds-services-archetype scaffolds the initial Maven project, and the domain model is then rewritten in the db folder with entities, the cuid and managed aspects, associations, compositions and a CodeList, so a hand-coded event handler serving a single entity gives way to a service that CAP's generic persistence handling serves without custom code. It deploys that model to SQLite for local development — cds deploy --to sqlite, then a Spring profile pointing at the generated database file — and ends by adding an index.cds so the model and service can be published as a reusable npm module.bruce_wang3, published 2020-12-08

How to build reusable plugin components for CAP Java applicationsHow to build reusable plugin components for CAP Java applicationsA companion to Daniel Schlachter's Reusable components for CAP with cds-plugin, showing the same mechanism on CAP Java: a plugin ships as its own Maven artifact with an event handler and a CdsRuntimeConfiguration implementation, registered through the JDK's ServiceLoader rather than any CAP-specific wiring. The walkthrough builds a cds-emoji-plugin-java jar that decorates @emoji-annotated fields on read, installs it to the local Maven repository, and adds it as a runtime dependency to a cds init --add java bookshop application. Reusable components for CAP with cds-pluginReusable components for CAP with cds-pluginThe post that taught the mechanism, and it teaches it by picking a requirement small enough to be absurd: every string a service returns should end in a random emoji. What's in Daniel Hutzel's brain? What's in Daniel Hutzel's brain?A Devtoberfest 2026 session in the building-apps track, in which Daniel Hutzel and DJ Adams work through what the CAP team is building for agents. A bookshop gets an MCP endpoint beside its OData one from a single annotation, with the plugin writing the coding agent's configuration itself; in the xt-travels sample five services that know nothing about each other are served over MCP and an agent does the orchestration the hand-built UI and its value helps used to do. Hutzel then annotates a service as an agent so the ReAct loop and the choice of model move into the CAP service, and finally drops MCP for a skill that teaches the agent CQL instead, which is where the edges to Serve your application over MCP, Agent tooling and Agent guidance come from. The mechanism under all of it, a plugin file in the package root and event handlers that can be added to any CAP service, is the edge to Plugin authoring.published 2026-10-02

Shows the same projection working two ways — against a CSV mocked under srv/external/data with the <service>-<entity>.csv naming the framework expects, then against the real service once credentials.url is added to the CAP configuration and @sap-cloud-sdk/http-client is installed — and defers routing that connection through the Cloud Foundry Destinations service to the next post in the series.published 2020-05-26
