A Fiori Launchpad Sandbox for all your CAP-based projects - OverviewA Fiori Launchpad Sandbox for all your CAP-based projects - OverviewWhere cds-launchpad-plugin came from, told as a learning exercise: the author wanted a real problem to teach himself TypeScript on, and picked the thing he kept redoing in every CAP project — a launchpad to see all the UI applications in one place. The origin post for an entry whose 2023 update is also indexed here.published 2022-03-14
Create a Simple CAP Application and Explore the DefaultsCreate a Simple CAP Application and Explore the DefaultsThe shortest way in: a project from the wizard, then a look at what CAP assumed on your behalf. The defaults are the subject rather than the application — which is the right first lesson in a framework whose whole argument is convention over configuration.SAP

Exploring the TypeScript Ecosystem with @cap-js/cds-typer, cds-ts, and node-tsExploring the TypeScript Ecosystem with @cap-js/cds-typer, cds-ts, and node-tsPart one of two: a bookshop project built in TypeScript from cds init, with cds-typer added as a development dependency and the surrounding tools — cds-ts and node-ts — put in place so the project runs locally. A setup walkthrough rather than an argument about typing, and it stops at the point where the application works on a laptop; deployment is part two.satya-dev, published 2024-07-08

Handling CSV Data Deployment in CAP HDI Without Data LossHandling CSV Data Deployment in CAP HDI Without Data LossThe same trap from the HDI side: .hdbtabledata hands the container full ownership of the data, so the next deployment overwrites the table from the file. Introducing eslint-plugin-better-cap-config an ESLint plugin to improve CAP configurationIntroducing eslint-plugin-better-cap-config an ESLint plugin to improve CAP configurationThe author's own announcement, and precise about scope: today it catches deprecated key/value entries in CAP's JSON configuration, and the ambition is that it grows into best practices, suggestions and autofixes the way any ESLint plugin does. The implementation detail worth knowing is that it uses modern ESLint's JSON language support rather than a generic parser, which is what makes linting a configuration file rather than source code work at all.published 2025-09-08
Migrating Your CAP Applications from SAP Web IDE to SAP Business Application StudioMigrating Your CAP Applications from SAP Web IDE to SAP Business Application StudioA migration checklist, and a reminder of how much of a CAP project used to be editor-specific: Web IDE configuration files to delete, a build to move to the Cloud MTA Build Tool, a CAP Java version to raise. Historical — Web IDE is gone — but it is the clearest list of what the tooling boundary used to include.liat_b, published 2020-07-09

Use TypeScript with the SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelUse TypeScript with the SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelWritten from the position of someone who avoided JavaScript for years and then had to cover CAP, which gives it a useful angle: what TypeScript buys a person arriving from a typed language, and where to start rather than how to finish. Develop a Full-Stack CAP Application Following SAP BTP Developer's GuideDevelop a Full-Stack CAP Application Following SAP BTP Developer's GuideThe eight-part path SAP's own Developer's Guide prescribes: a CAP service, Fiori Elements over it, custom logic, authorization, tests, and the preparation deployment needs. It is the closest thing to an official answer to 'what does a whole CAP application look like', which is why it sits under reference applications rather than under any one of the capabilities it touches.SAP

Dynamic Criticality in SAP CAP Using Fiori Elements and Node.jsDynamic Criticality in SAP CAP Using Fiori Elements and Node.jsColouring rows by status, which sounds like a UI question and is not: criticality is a value the service has to compute and expose, so the work is a virtual element in CDS and the annotation that points at it. Build a Business Application Using CAP for JavaBuild a Business Application Using CAP for JavaThe Java counterpart to the Node.js path — eight tutorials, around two and a half hours, from a generated project to a running service. Worth having indexed separately rather than folded in with the Node.js one: the runtimes diverge most in exactly the places a first application touches, and following the wrong path is a slow way to find that out.SAP

Boosting performance in SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) applications with cds-cachingBoosting performance in SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) applications with cds-cachingThe plugin's introduction post: what cds-caching is for, how it is put together and the cases it was written against. The edge holds because the plugin's README still points here as the piece to read first, so this is where a reader arriving at the plugin is sent. It predates version 1.0 and the API has moved since: the read-through calls it shows as cache.run() and cache.send() are the ones the README now lists as deprecated in favour of cache.rt.*, which returns the cache key and hit/miss metadata alongside the result, and 1.0 made user, tenant and locale awareness opt-in under keyManagement rather than folding them into request-based keys by default. Metrics and monitoring, the OData API and full TypeScript definitions arrived with 1.0 and are described in CAP just got faster: What's new in cds-caching 1.0 instead. The reasoning about when a CAP service wants a cache still reads true; the call sites need translating.published 2025-06-25

CAP just got faster: What's new in cds-caching 1.0CAP just got faster: What's new in cds-caching 1.0What changed in cds-caching at 1.0, announced at reCAP 2025 by the plugin's own maintainer. The substantive change is the read-through API: cache.rt.run(), send(), exec() and wrap() replace the bare cache.run() and cache.send(), and each returns the cache key and hit-or-miss metadata beside the result rather than the value alone. The second is quieter and easier to miss on an upgrade: user, tenant and locale stopped being folded into request-based cache keys by default and became opt-in through keyManagement, or per operation through a key template. Both of those still describe 3.x. What does not is the second half of the post: the metrics configuration it shows was reshaped at 2.0 and the statistics and dashboard settings were removed at 3.0, so take the monitoring and dashboard sections from the README instead. Read it as the successor to the introduction post, which still shows the deprecated calls.published 2025-07-15

Establish a central inbox with SAP Task CenterEstablish a central inbox with SAP Task CenterSAP's reference architecture for SAP Task Center as one inbox for the tasks of several SAP applications, opened in the Task Center web app or as To-Dos in SAP Start and SAP Mobile Start, which is the inbox half of task and approval UIs. It rests on Cloud Identity Services: every task provider must work with Identity Authentication, its users must carry the Global User ID and so must the recipients of each task, and sign-on between the provider and Identity Authentication is what lets a user navigate from Task Center into the provider. Task Center reaches providers through destinations in a customer subaccount, with Cloud Connector for on-premise SAP S/4HANA.published 2025-02-11
Federating, Replicating, and Caching Remote Data in CAP — Part 2Federating, Replicating, and Caching Remote Data in CAP — Part 2The practical half of the pair. Where Part 1 sets out the terminology, what CAP does out of the box and where the gaps are, this one builds a small application that federates, replicates and caches remote data, one step at a time, with the finished project published as sales-cockpit so a reader can either follow along or start from the end. It began as a twenty-minute reCAP talk, which the author says was only room for the intro.published 2026-07-17
Finally: An MCP Server for ABAPFinally: An MCP Server for ABAPAnnounces the ABAP variant of mcp-sap-docs, published at mcp-abap.marianzeis.de for GitHub Copilot's Agent Mode in ADT for Eclipse, which the post names as the trigger, with ABAP knowledge still a recurring problem in the models. Documentation irrelevant to ABAP was removed from the SAP docs server and the ABAP Keyword Documentation, the DSAG ABAP Development Guidelines and the ABAP Style Guide were added, with search reaching past the local index to SAP Community posts and SAP Help. Copilot in Eclipse is where the post puts the weight, because SAP Joule for Developers, ABAP AI capabilities in Eclipse is not available for S/4HANA on-premise systems; an update of 2026-02-05 adds Software Heroes as an online source and an abap_feature_matrix tool that checks feature availability across releases and ABAP Cloud, and the server runs hosted or locally with Node or Docker.published 2026-02-04
