cesar-sap/abap_kafka_rest_proxy
An ABAP connector that produces and consumes data to and from Kafka through the Confluent Kafka REST Proxy, since SAP NetWeaver ABAP has no native Kafka client; tested on ABAP 7.5x.
SAP NetWeaver ABAP has no native Kafka client, so this connector reaches a broker through the Confluent Kafka REST Proxy instead, producing and consuming ABAP data over a subset of the proxy's v2 HTTP API. It targets SAP NetWeaver ABAP systems and has been tested on ABAP 7.5x, with most of it expected to run from 7.3x onwards. It installs into a system as an abapGitabapGitA Git client written in ABAP that runs inside the system, so objects are cloned, pulled and pushed without leaving it; with no package manager in ABAP, a cloned repository is how code is distributed.community org, abap repository.

Conditions
PolicySAP API Policy 4.2026a§ 2.2.2, 3, FAQ 12, FAQ 27, FAQ 38The connector is used to expose an SAP API to an external consumer, or as a pathway for systematic or large-scale extraction of SAP business data. Ordinary outbound event notifications or callbacks are out of scope as such.
- § 2.2.2 AI call sequences and data extraction. Outside SAP-endorsed architectures, data services or expressly identified pathways, the policy prohibits specified agentic API use and systematic or large-scale extraction.
- § 3 Monitoring and remedies. SAP states that it may monitor API use and take enforcement actions when use does not comply with the documentation and policy.
- § FAQ 12 Outbound interfaces. The accompanying FAQ distinguishes external consumption of SAP-provided services from outbound notifications or callbacks sent by an SAP system, which it places outside this policy's scope.
- § FAQ 27 Custom-developed APIs. Customer-namespace ABAP interfaces are not prohibited merely because they are custom, but their underlying SAP dependencies and usage pattern still determine whether the use aligns with the policy.
- § FAQ 38 Large-scale data access. Large-scale extraction and replication must use access mechanisms and patterns documented for that purpose rather than treating a transactional or custom API as a general bulk-data surface.
The connector runs as customer ABAP code and normally calls outward to Kafka, which does not by itself put that traffic in scope. Reassess the concrete use when it fronts SAP APIs or moves data systematically at scale: custom code does not turn a transactional interface into an unrestricted extraction path.
SAP API Policy 4.2026a →Also, from Event Mesh§ 2.2.2, 3, FAQ 12, FAQ 27, FAQ 38: Direction and usage pattern decide the policy relevance. Customer ABAP code may publish events outward, but it must not be used to bypass SAP API controls or substitute a custom event stream for a documented bulk-data pathway.

Welcome to the ABAP to Kafka REST Proxy Connector.
This connector produces and consumes ABAP data to and from Kafka via the Confluent Rest Proxy. It implements a subset of the v2 API.
This connector is intended to be run on SAP NetWeaver ABAP Systems. It has so far only been tested in SAP ABAP 7.5x, but most of it should be fine from ABAP 7.3x onwards.
How to install
You need to have abapGit installed in your system. Once you have abapGit correctly set-up, just clone it into the system following abapGit instructions.
