ABAP Select Converter

Converts a classic Open SQL SELECT against dictionary tables to the equivalent statement against released Core Data Services entities and their fields.

Paste a classic SELECT into the form and it comes back as ABAP SQL, with the table access and the fields exchanged for the Core Data Services that are released for ABAP Cloud, and EQ, LE and GT written as the standard operators. What the site says it handles is a simple SELECT statement and JOINs with or without aliases. The same author's my-ide-actions names this tool as the basis of its SELECT Converter action and sends the full SELECT statement to the Software-Heroes API, so the same rewrite reaches a marked statement in Eclipse with ABAP Development Tools instead of a browser form.

PracticalFunctional boundary

In beta by its own page's account, where conversion bugs may occur and not all functions and variants are supported yet. The shapes named as not yet supported are sub selects, FOR ALL ENTRIES, functions such as count and sum, and the IN operator with a value list, so a statement built on one of those is outside what the converter sets out to do.

“It is primarily used to migrate existing code to ABAP Cloud.” — Software-Heroes — ABAP Select Converterchecked
History in the atlas3
  1. The flavor rests on the page's own "It is primarily used to migrate existing code to ABAP Cloud."; nothing on either page places the tool in standard ABAP. The page's "Additional infos" link was read for the first time and is now links.docs: it states the beta and lists what the converter supports and does not, which replaces the earlier "nothing for a batch of statements", a limit read off what the form does not show. The [my-ide-actions](artifact:xexer-my-ide-actions) sentence now follows that repository's own words, "The basis is the SwH tool" and the security table's "SELECT Converter | Software-Heroes API | -> Full SELECT Statement", and calls it an IDE Action rather than a package, which is the type that entry carries.
  2. Entered from software-heroes.com's tools page. artifact_type web-tool is new to the schema as of this run, added for exactly this shape: a hosted, no-install utility rather than a package, CLI or BTP service.
  3. First seen.
