IDE provisioning

Getting the IDE onto a developer's machine with the SAP plugins already in it, at a version the team can name. Distinct from editor support, which is what the editor does once it is there: this is the download, the update site, the install and how the result reaches machines a developer does not administer.

SAP SHIPS

SAP publishes ABAP Development Tools as an Eclipse update site with a procedure beside it: get an Eclipse installation, open Help > Install New Software, enter https://tools.hana.ondemand.com/latest, select ABAP Development Tools. The same page states the Eclipse releases, the JRE version and the operating systems the tools are supported on.

Not covered: At an Eclipse the reader supplies. The first step of the procedure is to obtain an Eclipse package, and the features are added to it afterwards from the update site, once per machine and from that machine.

Scripted installs that run that procedure for the developer: adt-bundle-builder runs it once with the Eclipse p2 director and ships the result as a zip, the shape the install takes when the machines are Citrix sessions or laptops someone else administers, and eclipsadt-o-mat is a PowerShell wizard that downloads Eclipse, installs ADT and adds the ADT plugins a developer picks from a catalog.
