SAP’s compositional design system: Craft enterprise UIs with AI on the fly
SAP's compositional design system is the engine behind the generated interface in Joule Work, the front of SAP JouleSAP JouleSAP's unified AI engagement layer across SAP applications: Joule Work is where a user expresses intent, Joule Assistants coordinate agents across business functions, and Joule Agents carry out the tasks, provisioned on BTP as a formation against SAP Cloud Identity Services.sap official, btp: SAP's abstract says AI assembles the UI at runtime from primitives and composites under a body of design knowledge, inside a brand-safe design system, and that the session covers the architecture that keeps the result consistent. A third shape of Generative UIGenerative UIPutting an interface inside an agent conversation: a tool result or an agent's reply shown as controls a person can work in, where text would have been. Two things go by the name. A prebuilt web UI that an MCP tool points to and the host renders in a sandboxed iframe, which the MCP Apps extension specifies, is selected by the model and not generated by it; a user interface rendered from a stream of JSON objects the agent sends, which the A2UI specification describes, is. Generating an application's source at design time is generators.Unmapped beside the two the capability describes, since here the model composes the interface at runtime. A TechEd 2026 session (Wednesday 28 October, Berlin), presented by Philip Miseldine and Sophia Levens, written here from SAP's abstract; the recording is not yet published.
