Apache Kafka
A distributed event-streaming platform. For the things here it is the broker that carries messages between the parts of one application.
Where it sits
Used by
Required dependency. The broker the messaging service talks to. cds-kafka reaches it through KafkaJS, and the credentials block is handed to the KafkaJS constructor, so a cluster in Docker on a laptop and a managed one in a cloud are configured the same way.
Optionally used: A messaging service is configured to use Apache Kafka for intra-application messaging.
Connected from
data, Kafka, TCP, both. Publishing CAP events to Kafka topics and subscribing to topics to receive messages, through the CAP messaging API.
data, Kafka, TCP, outbound. Fetching records from Kafka topics into an integration flow with the Kafka sender adapter, and sending messages to the Kafka broker with the Kafka receiver adapter.
data, outbound. Bridging between a Kafka cluster and the event broker: a Kafka Receiver reads records from Kafka topics and publishes them as broker messages, and a Kafka Sender takes messages from broker queues and writes them to Kafka topics.
