Getting started with CAP on PostgreSQL (Node.js)Getting started with CAP on PostgreSQL (Node.js)Running CAP on PostgreSQL locally in 2020, when doing so meant the community packages cds-pg and cds-dbm. It now opens with a banner the author added later: @sap/cds 7.0.0 has native PostgreSQL support, use @cap-js/postgres instead, with a pointer to a step-by-step guide for it. Worth having for that banner as much as for the content — a post that tells you not to follow it is a dated fact about where the answer moved.published 2020-11-16

HANA Database Migration: Handling Incompatible Changes to Existing TablesHANA Database Migration: Handling Incompatible Changes to Existing TablesThe question schema evolution exists for, asked plainly: how do you restructure a table in a production system that already holds live data. Incompatible changes are the ones CAP's own alter path will not make, which is where this starts.Sekar Somasundaram, published 2025-04-16
How I migrated my on-prem xsa cds3+hana solution to cds6+sqliteHow I migrated my on-prem xsa cds3+hana solution to cds6+sqliteThree major CDS versions and a database swap in one move, done to get an old on-premise XSA application running somewhere cheap. The repository is linked, and the interest is in what broke between cds3 and cds6 rather than in the destination.alex_myakinkii, published 2022-08-07

Run and Deploy CAP with PostgreSQL on SAP BTP Cloud Foundry (Node.js)Run and Deploy CAP with PostgreSQL on SAP BTP Cloud Foundry (Node.js)The deployment half of the pair, two weeks after the local one, and superseded the same way: it carries the same banner directing readers to @cap-js/postgres and the official documentation. The two together are the community PostgreSQL path as it stood before the core absorbed it.published 2020-11-30

Run and Deploy SAP CAP (Java) with PostgreSQL using Official Database Adapter @cap-js/postgresRun and Deploy SAP CAP (Java) with PostgreSQL using Official Database Adapter @cap-js/postgresThe post that records a handover. The author's earlier writing relied on the community projects cds-pg and cds-dbm; this one states that both were deprecated in favour of the official PostgreSQL support arriving with @sap/cds 7, and rewrites the path around @cap-js/postgres. For CAP Java it takes a different route to the initial schema.sql than the Node.js case, and it is candid that automatic schema deployment is convenient but not always what you want. Dated evidence for why two artifacts here went quiet.shanthakumar_krishnaswamy, published 2023-08-02

Semantic search in CAP (Node.js): vector embeddings and cosine similaritySemantic search in CAP (Node.js): vector embeddings and cosine similarityFinding the best semantic match for a prompt inside an entity, using local vector embeddings and cosine similarity — and the finding the author leads with is that it works without a vector database at all. Reported as experiments rather than as a pattern, which is the honest register for it: the interesting claim is how little infrastructure the simple case needs.published 2025-12-09
Explore SAP Fiori elements for ABAP developersExplore SAP Fiori elements for ABAP developersSAP Fiori elements for an ABAP developer who now builds the UI as well as the RAP business object behind it, the transactional model of ABAP Cloud, in SAP Business Application Studio; the abstract calls the UI side new territory for that developer, and a Fiori elements app is rendered from the service's Fiori annotations rather than hand-written UI code. The abstract names the tool and the stack and does not say which floorplan or annotations are shown. A TechEd 2026 session (Tuesday 27 October, Berlin), presented by Björn Schulz, written here from SAP's abstract; the recording is not yet published.
From SEGW and Legacy UI5 to RAP with ARC-1From SEGW and Legacy UI5 to RAP with ARC-1Three ARC-1 skills, run in Cursor with Composer-2 against a deliberately rough demo on an S/4HANA 2023 trial system, turn the SEGW service ZDEMO_MIG_PROJECTS_SRV into a managed, draft-enabled RAP business object published as OData V4, replace its ApproveProject function import and its direct UPDATE ... COMMIT WORK with the action approve_project written in EML in local mode, and rebuild the freestyle UI5 JavaScript app once in UI5 TypeScript and once as a Fiori elements list report and object page driven by metadata extensions. What the published transcripts add is how the agent got there: it found the generated MPC class names and the custom logic in DPC_EXT only by reading the system, the skills made it print the extracted model and stop for confirmation before writing, and @ui5/mcp-server, mcp-sap-docs and @sap-ux/fiori-mcp-server each had their own job beside it. The demo is small on purpose, and the post says a productive SEGW service that calls BAPIs, carries custom authorisation logic or supports deep inserts is not solved with one prompt.published 2026-05-11

Level up app development: ABAP Cloud model innovations and Joule solutionLevel up app development: ABAP Cloud model innovations and Joule solutionThe ABAP RESTful application programming model, in SAP's abstract, generates multi-node business objects and adds event-driven side effects, collaborative draft, background processing and analytical tables, with the SAP Joule for Developers, ABAP AI capabilities add-on used to speed development up. The generated business objects are the transactional model concern; the abstract names each feature and says nothing about how it is used. A TechEd 2026 session (Thursday 29 October, Berlin), presented by Anne Keller, Carine Tchoutouo Djomo, Frank Jentsch and Marina Blank, written here from SAP's abstract; the recording is not yet published.
