CAP, CDS, CDL, CSN and jq - finding associationsCAP, CDS, CDL, CSN and jq - finding associationsHow associations are actually represented once CDL is compiled into CSN, worked out by parsing the machine-readable form with jq. Consume SAP Document Management using @cap-js/sdm pluginConsume SAP Document Management using @cap-js/sdm pluginStoring attachments in a SAP Document Management repository from a CAP application, using the official plugin. The Full Picture: Federating, Replicating, and Caching Remote Data in CAP — Part 1The Full Picture: Federating, Replicating, and Caching Remote Data in CAP — Part 1Part one of two, and the concepts half: terminology, what CAP already does, and what a project still has to write. It fixes a vocabulary — federation is the umbrella for making remote data part of your model, delegation forwards each request to the remote at query time, replication is a scheduled copy into the local database, and caching is an option on either rather than a third strategy — which collides with CAP's own, since what this series calls replication is what the CAP-level Data Federation guide calls federation. From the ground the Service Integration guide covers, it lists what is left to hand-write: cross-service $expand, navigation filters across the boundary, write forwarding, timeouts and retries, then scheduling, delta detection, backoff, a guard for two app instances sharing one schedule, idempotent writes, and knowing whether the last run succeeded. That list is why the edge to cds-data-federation holds: the second half maps it onto @federation.delegate and @federation.replicate and says which package carries which part — annotations in cds-data-federation, the scheduled engine in cds-data-pipeline, response caching through cds-caching — so it is the design rationale for the annotations, not the API reference. The gap list and the plugins answering it come from the same person who maintains them; cap-replication-demo and SAP's xtravels sample are cited as the hand-written form of the same work. Part 2 is announced as a walkthrough of a demo application and is not covered here.

Simplifying SAP BTP Authentication in Pipelines with SAP Passport and PlaywrightSimplifying SAP BTP Authentication in Pipelines with SAP Passport and PlaywrightClient-certificate login to BTP works locally and has historically not worked in automated pipelines. The post uses Playwright's then-new client certificate support to close that, which is a sideways use of a browser automation library and the reason it is worth recording — the constraint it removes is a CI constraint, not a testing one.published 2024-11-08
SAP CAP: Controller - Service - Repository architectureSAP CAP: Controller - Service - Repository architectureThe pattern the author's two libraries exist to support, set out as a whole rather than one package at a time: a controller layer receiving the request, a service layer holding business logic, and a repository layer owning persistence — the separation CAP leaves to the developer once a model has produced an OData service. Read after the dispatcher and repository posts, or before them as the argument for both.published 2024-04-22

Use TypeScript with the SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelUse TypeScript with the SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelWritten from the position of someone who avoided JavaScript for years and then had to cover CAP, which gives it a useful angle: what TypeScript buys a person arriving from a typed language, and where to start rather than how to finish. Ends on a worked example rather than a survey.KevinR, published 2024-06-24
Exploring the TypeScript Ecosystem with @cap-js/cds-typer, cds-ts, and node-tsExploring the TypeScript Ecosystem with @cap-js/cds-typer, cds-ts, and node-tsPart one of two: a bookshop project built in TypeScript from cds init, with cds-typer added as a development dependency and the surrounding tools — cds-ts and node-ts — put in place so the project runs locally. A setup walkthrough rather than an argument about typing, and it stops at the point where the application works on a laptop; deployment is part two.satya-dev, published 2024-07-08

Develop a Full-Stack CAP Application Following SAP BTP Developer's GuideDevelop a Full-Stack CAP Application Following SAP BTP Developer's GuideThe eight-part path SAP's own Developer's Guide prescribes: a CAP service, Fiori Elements over it, custom logic, authorization, tests, and the preparation deployment needs. It is the closest thing to an official answer to 'what does a whole CAP application look like', which is why it sits under reference applications rather than under any one of the capabilities it touches.SAP

A custom action button added to a generated List Report and then given an SAPUI5 icon through a custom controller — the point where an annotation-driven app needs a piece of code, and what that costs.takayuki_tanaka, published 2024-08-02
CAP, CORS and custom headersCAP, CORS and custom headersWhat CAP itself does about CORS, and where it stops. The starting point is a colleague's request and a deliberate constraint: @sap/approuter has full CORS support, but the author wanted to know what the CAP server offers on its own and how to extend it. Ends up covering preflight requests and custom servers, which is the mechanism a frontend hosted outside BTP actually runs into.published 2024-04-11

Build a Business Application Using CAP for JavaBuild a Business Application Using CAP for JavaThe Java counterpart to the Node.js path — eight tutorials, around two and a half hours, from a generated project to a running service. Worth having indexed separately rather than folded in with the Node.js one: the runtimes diverge most in exactly the places a first application touches, and following the wrong path is a slow way to find that out.SAP
