abap-alv-struc-viewer

An ABAP tool that generates an ALV table view straight from a DDIC structure, as a control-driven substitute for classic dynpro fields, with search help, validation and formatting from the structure.

Building a data-entry screen from a DDIC structure normally means laying out dynpro fields one by one. This tool instead generates a table view in an ALV control directly from the structure, for use in control-driven SAP GUI front ends. Search help, input validation and output formatting follow from the structure's own field definitions and their check tables, including conversion exits, and display attributes such as hotspot, colour and check boxes can be set per field; where no text table is available, a chosen field from the check table can be shown instead, such as a customer's name from KNA1. Since an August 2023 update it also supports the TOOLBAR and USER_COMMAND events, the same as CL_GUI_ALV_GRID.

ABAP: View and edit fields of a structure in an ALV control

This tool generates a table view using ALV out of a DDIC structure. It can be used in control-driven SAPGUI front ends for a replacement of classic dynpro fields.

It includes the following features:

  • Automatic search help: Just as in a dynpro field, search help is provided from definitions in the DDIC structure field
  • Input validation: all inputs are checked for syntax and data validity using the check tables
  • Output format: data entered will be formatted as defined for the data type (respecting conversion exits)
  • Display attributes: hotspot, colors, check box and more can be used on selected fields
  • Value description: If a description can be found usign a text table, it can be shown besides the value
  • Special value description: When no text table is available, you can also choose a field from the check table to be shown (for instance the name of the customer from KNA1)

2023-08-17 added toolbar support

With this update, it is possible to use events TOOLBAR and USER_COMMAND just like in CL_GUI_ALV_GRID
