Beginners Guide to Advanced Event MeshBeginners Guide to Advanced Event MeshA scenario-by-scenario walkthrough of Advanced Event Mesh, run through Cloud Integration iFlows: publishing and consuming queue messages, dead message queue setup with retry counts and acknowledgment modes, direct messages, durable topic endpoints and selectors, time-to-live, REST Delivery Points, replay by replication group message ID, parallel consumers with partition keys, and the request-reply pattern. Each scenario is built and verified step by step against a Solace trial account standing in for AEM.PriyankaChak, published 2025-07-24
Effective Axios Error Logging for Robust SAP IntegrationsEffective Axios Error Logging for Robust SAP IntegrationsTwo logged failures printed side by side, and the point is made by looking at them: one tells you what went wrong and one does not. Axios buries the useful part of an HTTP error, and this is what to unwrap before logging it from a CAP service.Sahil2508, published 2025-08-31

September 15th: What's New on developers.sap.comSeptember 15th: What's New on developers.sap.comThomas Jung walks through a week of changes aimed at agentic consumption of developers.sap.com itself: the hosted MCP server gains a published .well-known/mcp.json manifest, curated tools (search_tutorials, get_tutorial_step with a Markdown format option, search_channels), and a listing in the ORD catalog beside its OData, REST and GraphQL APIs. It also documents the site's existing A2A endpoint for the first time and ships a way to turn a tutorial into an installable, cryptographically signed AI Skill with a generated verification script, both concrete instances of agent tooling; separately, five broken GraphQL example queries were fixed and the full SDL is now served, and new sitemap.md, llms.txt fixes and ORD entries round out the site's own metadata publishing.published 2026-09-15

How to rename an OData V4 service? How to rename an OData V4 service?Renaming an OData V4 service binding changes its Service Alias and the resulting service URL, breaking any app already deployed against the old one — shown on a /DMO/TRAVEL-based example in the SAP BTP ABAP environment by unpublishing, renaming and republishing the binding, then reading the new URL back from the OData V4 service catalog's ServiceGroups entry. It weighs that against two alternatives: adding a second service definition and publishing it as a new service version under the same binding, or creating an entirely new service definition and binding, which keeps the original URL live during the cutover.published 2026-07-04
SAP ORD Made Simple: What It Does and Why It’s Crucial in your SAP Landscape + Purpose and ValueSAP ORD Made Simple: What It Does and Why It’s Crucial in your SAP Landscape + Purpose and ValueExplains Open Resource Discovery (ORD), the metadata protocol SAP services use to self-describe their APIs, events and entity types for discovery across SAP Integration Suite, SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Datasphere. Points to SAP's @cap-js/ord as the reference implementation that lets CAP applications publish ORD-compliant metadata, the piece metadata publishing marks as beyond the EDMX and CSN the core emits on its own. Shows how to confirm ORD support for a published API by checking its ORD ID on the SAP Business Accelerator Hub.Yogananda, published 2026-03-01

Adding Immutable Blockchain Proofs to SAP With CAP - Cardano and OData V4Adding Immutable Blockchain Proofs to SAP With CAP - Cardano and OData V4The write-up behind ODATANO, by its author: how a public blockchain gets reachable from CAP as an ordinary OData V4 service rather than through a bespoke client. The premise it starts from is worth the read on its own — SAP systems are trusted but mutable, which is what an immutable anchor is for — and Cardano is chosen for peer-reviewed research and formal methods rather than for popularity. Written as an experiment with feedback invited, not as a recommendation.maxalexweber, published 2026-05-15

How to Perform Initial Loads from S/4HANA to Advanced Event Mesh with Odata PollHow to Perform Initial Loads from S/4HANA to Advanced Event Mesh with Odata PollWalks through building a Cloud Integration flow that polls the S/4HANA Business Partner OData API on a timer, splits the response into individual records, and publishes each as an event to Advanced Event Mesh through its adapter, with the topic set dynamically from a grouping property. Selects fields and expands associations with $select/$expand against an EDMX from the API Business Hub, and works around the OData V2 adapter's lack of JSON support by falling back to the HTTP adapter with an XML-to-JSON converter. Flags the trade-off: the pattern needs no backend change beyond activating the API, but the polled payload has to stay aligned with whatever event format the ERP pushes on change.AlexPfeil, published 2025-04-04
The Complete Guide to Calling Actions in UI5 with Custom CodeThe Complete Guide to Calling Actions in UI5 with Custom CodeWritten because the documentation is thin and the samples sparse, and openly as a note to the author's future self — hand-coding an action call has become a rare task for anyone mostly working in Fiori elements, which is exactly why it is hard to look up when it comes round. Serve your application over MCPSAP only
Add MCP capabilities to a CAP serviceAdd MCP capabilities to a CAP serviceA fifteen-minute walkthrough of turning a plain CAP service into an MCP server: annotate the service with @mcp, install @cap-js/mcp, and it is served alongside OData at /mcp/<path>. The part worth reading it for is what happens next — cds watch writes the endpoint into the local agent's own configuration file, so OpenCode or Claude Code can call the service without anyone editing JSON by hand. It is built on the tiny-sample facet, so there is nothing to prepare, and it shows the protocol traffic rather than only the result. Written while the adapter was in beta, and it says so.published 2026-08-13
Agentic AI on BTP: a Multi‑Agent App with Pydantic AIAgentic AI on BTP: a Multi‑Agent App with Pydantic AISplits a single CAP/TypeScript agent that had grown to juggle five BTP MCP servers behind one bloated tool list into btp-multiagent-app, a Python and Pydantic AI rewrite where the Cloud Foundry and BTP Core MCP servers each get a dedicated specialist agent, with an audit log specialist scaffolded but left disabled, behind an orchestrator whose only tools are delegation calls to those specialists, which is the agent-tooling pattern the piece works through. Each specialist authenticates to its MCP server over Streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.1, and a shared module centralises the SAP AI Core GenAI Hub model setup behind two credential layouts, one for local runs and one for the Cloud Foundry service binding, the LLM integration side of the rewrite. Tool lists per agent drop from well over a hundred to a dozen or two, and routing failures become separable from tool-misuse failures by reading the trace.published 2026-05-03
Agentic AI on BTP: a Single Agent with LangGraphAgentic AI on BTP: a Single Agent with LangGraphA CAP TypeScript agent puts a LangGraph StateGraph in front of AzureOpenAiChatClient from @sap-ai-sdk/langchain, reaching SAP AI Core's Generative AI Hub, and lets its tool-calling loop draw on five deployed MCP servers — OData MCP Proxy, CI MCP Server, AI Core MCP Server, BTP MCP Server and BTP CF MCP Server — through @langchain/mcp-adapters' MultiServerMCPClient. Because agent, servers and APIs share one XSUAA tenant, the chat service forwards the signed-in user's own JWT instead of a service account, so each downstream server enforces that user's own authorizations. Past roughly a hundred combined tools the single prompt slows down and stops separating concerns, which is why the author's next post splits it into one specialist agent per MCP server behind an orchestrator.published 2026-05-03
API Composition: Seamless Enterprise Data Access for Developers and AI AgentsAPI Composition: Seamless Enterprise Data Access for Developers and AI AgentsAPI Composition (formerly Graph, a capability of API Management) curates business data graphs from existing SAP and non-SAP API providers, so a query can navigate and expand relationships across systems through one composed API rather than hand-written integration code. Each CDS action — listCases, getCaseById, createCase, patchCase — becomes its own MCP tool served at /mcp/caseservices, discoverable through tools/list and invoked from a natural-language request.pvsbprasad, published 2026-08-31
MCP Servers are the New Z-TablesMCP Servers are the New Z-TablesA single CAP service exposed as three overlapping MCP servers tools, queried by the same prompt nineteen times, returned the same tool every time — evidence, the author argues, that tool selection rests on the resemblance between a prompt and a tool's description rather than on any binding a where-used list could enumerate before retiring it. It contrasts that setup with @cap-js/mcp, which exposes a whole service as three generic tools instead of one per operation, and quotes the adapter's own beta documentation admitting no rate limiting, audit logging, input validation or approval workflow, and no use as a gateway to SAP Application APIs. From there it names four small Tool governance practices it has adopted: an owner recorded in the tool's own metadata, logging every invocation, deprecating inside the description, and exposing fewer tools.published 2026-08-21
Natural Language Queries for SAP CAP via MCP: The LLM Translates, CDS ExecutesNatural Language Queries for SAP CAP via MCP: The LLM Translates, CDS ExecutesThe division of labour is the argument, and it is in the subtitle: the model turns English into a CDS query and CDS runs it, so nothing generates SQL and nothing hallucinates a join. UI5 MCP Server Got Extended for UI Integration Cards GenerationUI5 MCP Server Got Extended for UI Integration Cards GenerationVersion 0.2.1 of the UI5 MCP Server adds three tools for UI Integration Cards: get_integration_cards_guidelines feeds an agent current best practices and API versions, create_integration_card scaffolds a new card project, and run_manifest_validation checks the generated manifest against the schema. Communicate from a Java Application to ABAP via WebSocket RFC using JCo - Migration GuideCommunicate from a Java Application to ABAP via WebSocket RFC using JCo - Migration GuideWalks a JCo setup from classic CPIC-based RFC to WebSocket RFC: swap the application- or message-server logon properties for jco.client.wshost and jco.client.wsport, and implement DestinationDataProvider's getSSLContext (and, for mTLS, getClientCertificate) since the new connection runs over TLS. It covers building the PKI trust on both sides — a local PKCS12 keystore for the Java side, STRUST's SSL-Server Standard certificate exported and imported for mutual trust on the ABAP side — and notes that on BTP, JCo paired with the Destination service already implements this via the Connectivity service, so the custom SSLContext work can be skipped there.simon_luser, published 2025-01-21

Raising the threshold to 0.95 narrows that field to near-exact matches for structured identifiers such as contract numbers, while an unset field keeps HANA's default (~80%) fuzziness for broader free-text discovery.Ruchi5, published 2026-07-27

Useful as a dated marker of the core moving into ground the community has been covering, and the alpha caveat is the point rather than a footnote.published 2025-10-30

CAP Foundry: Engineering SAP CAP Applications from Business Intent with Guardrailed AICAP Foundry: Engineering SAP CAP Applications from Business Intent with Guardrailed AICAP Foundry is a prototype that generates a CAP Node.js project with SAP Fiori elements from a written business requirement, discovering the actual data shape from a chosen source — SQLite, a configured SAP HANA HDI container, offline EDMX, live OData through the SAP Destination service, or approved SAP BTP ABAP objects — instead of inventing one. The generated application can carry a Fiori draft lifecycle with optimistic concurrency via ETags and annotation-driven Fiori elements list and object screens, localized independently of the underlying service contract. Attachments can be added with upload, download and delete, gated on a malware-scan status, and the generated project still has to compile, build and pass its generated tests before the run is accepted.Shahid, published 2026-08-20

Implementing Dynamic Subaccount-Based Routing in SAP CAP with SAP BTP DestinationsImplementing Dynamic Subaccount-Based Routing in SAP CAP with SAP BTP DestinationsWhy environment variables are the wrong place for backend endpoints in a CAP application, and what replaces them: cockpit destinations resolved at runtime, with the subaccount or instance identified as the request is handled. Selects fields and expands associations with $select/$expand against an EDMX from the API Business Hub, and works around the OData V2 adapter's lack of JSON support by falling back to the HTTP adapter with an XML-to-JSON converter. Teaching AI Agents Best Practices: A Skills Workspace for CAP DevelopmentTeaching AI Agents Best Practices: A Skills Workspace for CAP DevelopmentStates the gap this capability exists for more precisely than most: an agent already knows CAP well enough to generate models, handlers and deployments, but knowing a framework and following its current practice reliably are different things, because a model defaults to whatever it saw most of during training — which may be outdated, subtly wrong, or simply not how a given team works. Schema annotations do the resolving. Long, with the package, the repository and the MCP registry entry all linked.Shahid, published 2026-06-25

The post frames these as closing the same gaps as the server's existing tools — an LLM's outdated or wrong card API knowledge — this time for scaffolding and validating a card rather than a full app.daniel_vladinov, published 2026-01-22
What an AI infra engineer sees when opening SAP's AI stack (1/3): the model gatewayWhat an AI infra engineer sees when opening SAP's AI stack (1/3): the model gatewayA first look at SAP AI Core's Generative AI Hub from someone who builds gateways outside SAP for a living: the orchestration service harmonizes provider calls onto one API (a model name string switches providers, and SAP Note 3437766 carries the current model list, token rates and deprecation dates), runs a fixed, non-reorderable module pipeline — templating, masking through SAP Data Privacy Integration, grounding, content filtering, then the model call — and retries down an ordered fallback list whose entries can each carry their own model and rules. It places @sap-ai-sdk/orchestration among the official JavaScript, Java and Python SDKs, and notes SAP's own LiteLLM provider as a way to put a different gateway in front of it.amishkush, published 2026-09-30

HANA Cloud’s VECTOR EMBEDDING in CAP and Comparison with OpenAI EmbeddingHANA Cloud’s VECTOR EMBEDDING in CAP and Comparison with OpenAI EmbeddingTwo ways to produce the same embedding, run side by side: HANA Cloud's own VECTOR_EMBEDDING function against Azure OpenAI through the CAP LLM plugin. The CDS side is short — an element of type cds.Vector maps to REAL_VECTOR on deploy — so what remains is the comparison, which is the thing you cannot get from either product's documentation alone.lalitmohan, published 2025-04-09

BTP Audit Log MCP Server: Security Monitoring with AI AssistantsBTP Audit Log MCP Server: Security Monitoring with AI AssistantsWouter Lemaire builds an MCP server over SAP BTP's Audit Log Retrieval API using odata-mcp-proxy, with a single entity set and zero custom code, so an AI assistant can answer natural-language questions like "Were there any configuration changes yesterday?" by calling AuditLogRecords_list against a BTP destination authenticated with the Audit Log service's service key. It covers the destination setup, the entity-set configuration that maps the PascalCase entity name to a lowercase auditlogrecords path, and handling the API's 500-record pagination limit.published 2026-03-13
How to enable SAP Audit Log Viewer service to collect all Audit logs from BTP Services - Part 1How to enable SAP Audit Log Viewer service to collect all Audit logs from BTP Services - Part 1Walks through subscribing to the SAP Audit Log service's viewer app from the SAP BTP cockpit and creating a RoleCollection from the auditlog-management and auditlog-viewer role templates, assigned to a user or by a rule on the IDP's SAML assertion, to read audit logging events in a subaccount. The post's own update notes that a BTP release from 19 February 2026 removed the need for that role-assignment step. It also lists which Cloud Foundry services write audit log events, pointing to each service's own auditing page rather than detailing them here.Yogananda, published 2025-03-07

How to Access SAP Cloud Logging Service Dashboards Using IAS SAML AuthenticationHow to Access SAP Cloud Logging Service Dashboards Using IAS SAML AuthenticationWalks through wiring SAML 2.0 single sign-on between SAP Cloud Identity Services (IAS) and SAP Cloud Logging so its OpenSearch dashboards accept IAS logins instead of a service key: creating the SAML application in IAS, editing the instance's saml parameters (admin_group, idp.metadata_url, idp.entity_id, sp.entity_id), setting the matching entity ID and endpoints on the IAS side, and mapping an IAS group to the all_access role through a groups attribute. It also shows how to read a 403 on the dashboard as SAML login succeeding while the group-to-role mapping is still missing.Umezuki, published 2025-12-30

Dynamic authorisation with user attributes in SAP CAP and AMSDynamic authorisation with user attributes in SAP CAP and AMSThe same argument as the XSUAA-to-AMS piece, opened from a concrete failure: an acquisition puts 500 users on sales data restricted by division, and role-based access control answers it with Sales_Manager_EMEA, Sales_Manager_APAC and so on until the roles multiply past managing. Attribute-based authorisation replaces the set with one policy carrying a restriction, and the post walks through defining it in AMS against Cloud Identity Services. The clearest statement of role explosion among the three AMS pieces here.pedro_iranzo, published 2026-05-04

From XSUAA to AMS: Architecting S4HANA CAP Extensions with Policy-Based AuthorizationFrom XSUAA to AMS: Architecting S4HANA CAP Extensions with Policy-Based AuthorizationWhy scope-based authorization runs out, argued from enterprise extension work rather than from the documentation: XSUAA handles roles well, but real requirements are business-context restrictions — country, company code, organisational unit — and expressing those as scopes does not scale. The migration to policy-based authorization is presented as an architectural move for S/4HANA extensions rather than a configuration change.Avinash Vaidya, published 2026-05-27
