Reusable components for CAP with cds-pluginReusable components for CAP with cds-pluginThe post that taught the mechanism, and it teaches it by picking a requirement small enough to be absurd: every string a service returns should end in a random emoji. Working through that on the bookshop example leaves nothing to argue about except the plumbing, which is the point — what a cds-plugin is, where it hooks in, and why packaging it beats copying it into the next project. Vinícius Barrionuevo credits this post as the thing that gave him the idea for sap-cap-sdm-plugin, and it is hard to read the plugin ecosystem in this graph without it.published 2023-04-30

Run and Deploy SAP CAP (Java) with PostgreSQL using Official Database Adapter @cap-js/postgresRun and Deploy SAP CAP (Java) with PostgreSQL using Official Database Adapter @cap-js/postgresThe post that records a handover. The author's earlier writing relied on the community projects cds-pg and cds-dbm; this one states that both were deprecated in favour of the official PostgreSQL support arriving with @sap/cds 7, and rewrites the path around @cap-js/postgres. For CAP Java it takes a different route to the initial schema.sql than the Node.js case, and it is candid that automatic schema deployment is convenient but not always what you want. Dated evidence for why two artifacts here went quiet.shanthakumar_krishnaswamy, published 2023-08-02

The consequence for application code is what makes it worth reading: under the attribute-based configuration a CAP handler reads req.user.attr.department, and under the authority-based one it does not, because the attribute is not there. Teaching AI Agents Best Practices: A Skills Workspace for CAP DevelopmentTeaching AI Agents Best Practices: A Skills Workspace for CAP DevelopmentStates the gap this capability exists for more precisely than most: an agent already knows CAP well enough to generate models, handlers and deployments, but knowing a framework and following its current practice reliably are different things, because a model defaults to whatever it saw most of during training — which may be outdated, subtly wrong, or simply not how a given team works. In the samples the model selects the tool and does not generate the interface, the prebuilt kind of generative UI, and the subject is the server side of MCP servers: register the resource, link it from the tool's _meta.ui.resourceUri, return text content as a fallback beside structuredContent, call callServerTool() only for tools of the server that owns the app, and send a message to the host when another server such as ARC-1 has to act. Use TypeScript with the SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelUse TypeScript with the SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelWritten from the position of someone who avoided JavaScript for years and then had to cover CAP, which gives it a useful angle: what TypeScript buys a person arriving from a typed language, and where to start rather than how to finish. Ends on a worked example rather than a survey.KevinR, published 2024-06-24
Using Apache Kafka for messaging in the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) – Part 1/2Using Apache Kafka for messaging in the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) – Part 1/2The theory half of a pair introducing cds-kafka: what the plugin is for and what it can do, with event-driven architecture set up as the reason rather than assumed. Nothing is deployed here — the running application is part two — so this is the post to read if the question is whether Kafka belongs in the picture at all rather than how to wire it.published 2025-01-02
Using Apache Kafka for messaging in the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) – Part 2/2Using Apache Kafka for messaging in the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) – Part 2/2The practical half: concrete use cases for cds-kafka, running locally and on BTP. It opens by placing the plugin among SAP's own event-driven offerings rather than beside them, which is the part that decides whether you reach for this or for Event Mesh — a comparison a plugin's own README rarely makes about itself.published 2025-01-13
Using Custom Actions to display PDF from SAP BTP Forms service into a CAP SAPUI5 applicationUsing Custom Actions to display PDF from SAP BTP Forms service into a CAP SAPUI5 applicationA requirement that arrived after the application was finished — render a PDF from the record currently open on an object page — and the join it needed: the Forms service bound to the CAP application, a custom action on the service, and a button on the object page header calling it.rodfior, published 2023-01-30
Using HANA Cloud’s "VECTOR_EMBEDDING" Function in CAPUsing HANA Cloud’s "VECTOR_EMBEDDING" Function in CAPEmbeddings generated inside the database rather than fetched from AI Core or an external model — a Q4 2024 HANA Cloud function, used from CAP. The shift it describes is where the embedding step lives, which changes what has to be deployed and what has to be called.published 2025-03-02
Using Postgresql Database in Cloud Application Programming modelUsing Postgresql Database in Cloud Application Programming modelA straight run through the official PostgreSQL guide with the steps spelled out, from initialising the server onward. Says as much itself — it follows the documentation rather than departing from it, which makes it the plainest of the PostgreSQL entries here.published 2024-05-14

Using Postman for API Testing with XSUAAUsing Postman for API Testing with XSUAAA way to get a JWT without routing traffic through the approuter and picking the token out of it. The author walks the alternatives first — redirect through the router, intercept the token — and says what is wrong with each, before requesting the token from the service directly.mariusobert, published 2020-03-02
Visualizing Your SAP Bill of Materials Using CAP, Fiori elements, and the UI5 Network GraphVisualizing Your SAP Bill of Materials Using CAP, Fiori elements, and the UI5 Network GraphA parent-child structure rendered as a network graph inside a Fiori Elements application, with the CAP service modelling the bill of materials behind it. Useful as one of the few worked examples of putting a non-standard visualisation into an annotation-driven floorplan rather than building a freestyle app around it.published 2025-02-24

Why developers should care about credential-types for xsuaa? Why developers should care about credential-types for xsuaa?Rotating secrets, argued from a habit rather than a feature: the author names the practice implicit in many beginner tutorials — lifting a secret out of a binding to use it elsewhere — and notes CAP has features that make it unnecessary in development. Then the three credential types side by side, configured on a CAP application's uaa resource in mta.yaml and through a deployment extension.former_member2839, published 2022-07-05

Working with the Attachment plugin - Cloud Application ProgrammingWorking with the Attachment plugin - Cloud Application ProgrammingOne instalment of the author's own series working through the CAP plugins one at a time, and it reads as that: what the plugin does, how it does it, and how to put it in a service. Written from the plugin list in capire rather than from a problem, which makes it the plainest introduction here.published 2024-05-18

XSUAA Local TestingXSUAA Local TestingAdding XSUAA to a CAP project two ways, and then the part that is usually missing: getting the authorisation to behave on a laptop rather than only after deployment. The default authentication mechanism is the easy half; testing it without a landscape is the reason this exists.ManasaManu, published 2024-10-17
