[Part – 2] Enrich CAP based Services with Behaviors using Annotations[Part – 2] Enrich CAP based Services with Behaviors using AnnotationsThe second half of a two-part walkthrough of CAP's behavioral annotations, following on from access control and input validation in the first part. This post works through @cds.autoexpose, @cds.api.ignore, @cds.persistence.exists/skip, @cds.on.insert/@cds.on.update and the @odata.Type/@odata.singleton mapping overrides, all shaping how a CDS model is projected into a service, which is data modelling. Alongside these it covers @cds.query.limit for default and maximum page sizes (pagination and streaming), @odata.etag with exclusive and shared locks for optimistic concurrency (concurrency control), and @cds.search for scoping $search to chosen elements (search), each with a CDS code example.published 2023-01-29
#BTP #SAPCAP: Quirky Nuggets (N01-N02)#BTP #SAPCAP: Quirky Nuggets (N01-N02)Walks through two CAP gotchas: the on/before/after phases of custom event handlers, shown with an after handler whose edits only reach the result when the handler returns an object or array, never a primitive; and the @assert.unique annotation, which builds a database uniqueness constraint from the model. For Input validation, the catch is that once the constrained property is nested, @assert.unique must name it by its model dot path (assignment.type) rather than the flattened column data modelling compiles it to (assignment_type).published 2023-06-05

A CAP Plugin for Flexible Number Range Management: cds-numberrange-pluginA CAP Plugin for Flexible Number Range Management: cds-numberrange-pluginThe author's own plugin, and the reason given for writing it is about plugins rather than about number ranges: a year of using them convinced them that this was the way to extend CAP without leaving marks on the application. Sequential document numbers are the thing it does; keeping the host project clean is the thing it argues for.abdulbasit, published 2025-06-17
Beyond READ_TEXT: Decoding SAPscript Long Texts (STXL) with SQLScript in CDS/AMDPBeyond READ_TEXT: Decoding SAPscript Long Texts (STXL) with SQLScript in CDS/AMDPSTXL stores a SAPscript long text as a compressed ABAP cluster container — LZ77 plus canonical Huffman — so the only official reads are READ_TEXT, one call per text, and its mass variant READ_TEXT_TABLE, both of which ship every decompressed line to the application server and stay invisible to ABAP CDS. The author reverse-engineered that on-disk format and ported the decoder into SQLScript, wrapped in an AMDP procedure and exposed through CDS table functions, turning long texts into a joinable, filterable column read directly in the database. On ABAP 7.56 a table function needs the driver-and-filter pattern shown because a parameter cannot bind to a calling column; on ABAP 7.58/S/4HANA 2023 the same result becomes a parameter-less CDS scalar function with true filter push-down.aamelin1, published 2026-08-20

The calculated field is built with a case/when expression over dats_add_days, giving any calendar date's technical-week key figure date.bharatbajaj, published 2026-02-18
CAP, CDS, CDL, CSN and jq - finding associationsCAP, CDS, CDL, CSN and jq - finding associationsHow associations are actually represented once CDL is compiled into CSN, worked out by parsing the machine-readable form with jq. Useful less as a recipe than as a way in: anything that wants to reason about a CDS model without the compiler has to read CSN, and this is what that looks like from the outside.published 2024-04-16

Develop a full stack Business application with SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelDevelop a full stack Business application with SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelBuilds a full-stack CAP application in SAP Web IDE Full Stack's now-retired 'SAP Cloud Platform Business Application' template: a data-model.cds entity with its own service definition, then Fiori annotations on the generated OData. Building the project compiles that model into Catalog.xml and csn.json, the EDMX and CSN that metadata publishing says every exposed service gets. The entity and service definitions it writes by hand are the basic shape data modelling covers, though the webIDE and MTA tooling staged around them is gone.former_member584731, published 2018-11-29

First Java Cap ApplicationFirst Java Cap ApplicationA step-by-step walkthrough of a first CAP Java project: com.sap.cds:cds-services-archetype scaffolds the initial Maven project, and the domain model is then rewritten in the db folder with entities, the cuid and managed aspects, associations, compositions and a CodeList, so a hand-coded event handler serving a single entity gives way to a service that CAP's generic persistence handling serves without custom code. My CAP Projects ToolboxMy CAP Projects ToolboxA working inventory of daily CAP tooling: scaffolding a project with cds init and growing it facet by facet through cds add (TypeScript, seed data, an .http test file, a handler stub), then running it with cds watch and setting a breakpoint in a custom handler from SAP Business Application Studio's JavaScript Debug Terminal. It also walks through an @open entity that accepts properties the model never declared, and reading temporal data defined with CAP's temporal aspect, where a plain read returns only what is valid now and a custom handler is needed to retrieve every time slice.vvdries, published 2024-12-23
SAP CAP Adapter to expose OData as custom REST ServiceSAP CAP Adapter to expose OData as custom REST ServiceWalks through consuming an external OData V2 service in a CAP project — cds import converts the Northwind service's EDMX into a CSN and cds.connect.to wires up the remote proxy — then re-exposing it as plain REST with the @protocol:'rest' annotation instead of OData's own envelope. Shows two ways to reshape the response, renaming and dropping fields in a CDS projection or rewriting the returned objects in a custom service handler, and remaps ?pageSize and ?offset onto OData's $top and $skip in that same handler.Former Member, published 2021-09-15
SAP CAP Recent Enhancements the HANA Dev Should Know AboutSAP CAP Recent Enhancements the HANA Dev Should Know AboutThomas Jung walks through CAP features for HANA database developers that landed through late 2021: doc comments in the data model (CDL comments propagated into generated database objects via the package.json cdsc.docs compiler option), and schema evolution reaching general availability in the November 2021 release, using the @cds.persistence.journal annotation and cds.hana.journal settings to generate incremental hdbmigrationtable migration scripts instead of dropping and recreating tables. It also walks through two features outside those two: window functions in view column definitions, added in the December 2021 release, and a beta assert_integrity setting that generates database foreign-key constraints from 1:1 associations and compositions.published 2022-02-15

SAP Cloud Platform Backend service: Tutorial [11]: CDS : magic: key: generationSAP Cloud Platform Backend service: Tutorial [11]: CDS : magic: key: generationExplains CDS's UUID key type: giving a key property UUID gets its value generated automatically instead of a hand-picked unused number, as data modelling lets an element's type do, at the cost of a 36-character value unfit for a user-facing display. It then works out how that generated value is addressed in a single-entity read URL — bare brackets in OData V4 against the guid'...' literal V2 requires — citing the OData specification for the difference.CarlosRoggan, published 2019-03-15

Getting there means learning that HANA's fuzzy .search() matches one word but not a full sentence, fixed by splitting the query into terms and merging the per-term hits, and that provisioning SAP HANA Cloud hits a database-level free-tier quota rather than an HDI-container one, with a stopped instance needing to be resumed first. It also covers @sap/cds-dk needing to sit in dependencies rather than devDependencies, since Cloud Foundry's buildpack skips the latter, before cds deploy --to hana can run as part of the push.neilaspin, published 2026-07-28
CAP Foundry: Engineering SAP CAP Applications from Business Intent with Guardrailed AICAP Foundry: Engineering SAP CAP Applications from Business Intent with Guardrailed AICAP Foundry is a prototype that generates a CAP Node.js project with SAP Fiori elements from a written business requirement, discovering the actual data shape from a chosen source — SQLite, a configured SAP HANA HDI container, offline EDMX, live OData through the SAP Destination service, or approved SAP BTP ABAP objects — instead of inventing one. The generated application can carry a Fiori draft lifecycle with optimistic concurrency via ETags and annotation-driven Fiori elements list and object screens, localized independently of the underlying service contract. Attachments can be added with upload, download and delete, gated on a malware-scan status, and the generated project still has to compile, build and pass its generated tests before the run is accepted.Shahid, published 2026-08-20

How to share tables across different CAP projectsHow to share tables across different CAP projectsFour scenarios for reading one CAP project's table from another, worked out as a matrix of what each one needs: the same HDI container and namespace, the same container under a different namespace, a different container, and a different Cloud Foundry space. The mechanics change with each step — @cds.persistence.exists on the reused entity throughout, an .hdbsynonym once namespaces diverge, .hdbrole and .hdbgrants once containers do, and a user-provided service built from the grantor's credentials once spaces do. The author flags the caveat themselves: these are learning scenarios, and consuming the OData service is often the better answer than reaching into another project's database. Dated corrections from twelve days after publication sit inline — synonyms need only the name because the configuration comes from .hdbsynonymconfig, SERVICE_REPLACEMENTS in mta.yaml removes the hard-coded service name, and the reused container need not be bound to the srv module.published 2021-10-03

It reads a named worksheet by its column-and-row coordinates into an internal table through the row-stream operation, then creates or updates records with the EML MODIFY ENTITIES statement, and reserves the Fiori elements custom-action wiring and the download/template generation for Parts 2 and 3.DebrajManna87, published 2024-08-08
SAP Datasphere Integration Patterns: Lessons Learned from Two Years of ImplementationsSAP Datasphere Integration Patterns: Lessons Learned from Two Years of ImplementationsTwo years of production SAP Datasphere integrations across SAP and non-SAP sources, settling on Replication Flows over remote access for high-volume Finance analytics because remote queries added latency at query time, then tuning the copy with Datasphere-side partitioning, source-side CDS view optimisation and Cloud Connector sizing. For file-based and Kafka sources, SAP Integration Suite iFlows did work a direct connection could not — flattening nested JSON, PGP decryption and orchestrating the SAP Ariba extraction built on SAP's own BTP Procurement Data Extractor content.saikrishna_kalivarapu2, published 2026-08-17
Connecting Two SAP CAP Projects Without Duplicating Your DataConnecting Two SAP CAP Projects Without Duplicating Your DataCross-container HDI synonyms, argued from the alternatives rather than presented as a recipe: copying the table, standing up an API, or hard-coding the values are the three things the author reports seeing teams do, and each is named as working but unclean. With synonyms in place the consuming project queries the owner's HANA tables through ordinary SQL and ordinary CAP service code, with no replication and nothing to drift between environments. Covers the same ground as Mio Yasutake's 2021 post from a different angle — that one enumerates four topologies, this one argues for one of them.Inderpreet, published 2026-07-08
Integrating Using Google Cloud Storage Adapter (GCP Authentication & adapter config)Integrating Using Google Cloud Storage Adapter (GCP Authentication & adapter config)Walks through connecting SAP Integration Suite's Google Cloud Storage adapter to a bucket: creating a GCP service account with the Storage Object Admin role, generating its JSON or P12 key, converting it into a key-pair alias, and using that alias and the service account email in the adapter's authentication. It covers configuring the receiver adapter's upload operation (directory, object name, content type, and override, ignore or fail handling for an existing file) and the sender adapter's read, including post-processing to archive, delete or keep the object after an iFlow fetches it.MirunaliniV, published 2026-02-20
HANA Database Migration: Handling Incompatible Changes to Existing TablesHANA Database Migration: Handling Incompatible Changes to Existing TablesThe question schema evolution exists for, asked plainly: how do you restructure a table in a production system that already holds live data. Run and Deploy SAP CAP (Java) with PostgreSQL using Official Database Adapter @cap-js/postgresRun and Deploy SAP CAP (Java) with PostgreSQL using Official Database Adapter @cap-js/postgresThe post that records a handover. The author's earlier writing relied on the community projects cds-pg and cds-dbm; this one states that both were deprecated in favour of the official PostgreSQL support arriving with @sap/cds 7, and rewrites the path around @cap-js/postgres. For CAP Java it takes a different route to the initial schema.sql than the Node.js case, and it is candid that automatic schema deployment is convenient but not always what you want. Dated evidence for why two artifacts here went quiet.shanthakumar_krishnaswamy, published 2023-08-02

Building an SAP BTP Agent Architecture from Scratch: Python + CAP + HANABuilding an SAP BTP Agent Architecture from Scratch: Python + CAP + HANAA first-person build log of a Flask orchestrator on Cloud Foundry that reduces a question to keywords, searches a Node.js service's Documents entity, and passes what it finds to Claude for a grounded answer.

Improved Search Performance in SAP BTP Core, SAP Cloud Application Programming Model, Node.js RuntimeImproved Search Performance in SAP BTP Core, SAP Cloud Application Programming Model, Node.js RuntimeExplains CDS version 5's @cds.search annotation, which lets a service declare which elements a search query covers, and states that only String-typed elements are searched by default so the generated SQL stays simple. Covers two further changes to @sap/cds's Node.js runtime: metadata about which elements are searchable is now cached, and search over localized text can resolve at query time instead of through a compiled view, avoiding a coalesce function that blocks filter push-down on SAP HANA. Also describes an experimental toggle, cds.env.features.optimized_search, that lets the runtime choose the CONTAINS predicate over LIKE for large data sets.published 2021-08-18
Semantic search in CAP (Node.js): vector embeddings and cosine similaritySemantic search in CAP (Node.js): vector embeddings and cosine similarityFinding the best semantic match for a prompt inside an entity, using local vector embeddings and cosine similarity — and the finding the author leads with is that it works without a vector database at all. Understanding Fuzzy Search in SAP Fiori ApplicationsUnderstanding Fuzzy Search in SAP Fiori ApplicationsExplains SAP HANA Enterprise Search's fuzzy, relevance-ranked matching behind Fiori's global search bar, its exact-match Search Query Syntax operators, and how a CAP CDS project on @sap/cds tunes the gap between them with @cds.search and @Search.fuzzinessThreshold, shown on a Contracts entity's contractNumber field. Raising the threshold to 0.95 narrows that field to near-exact matches for structured identifiers such as contract numbers, while an unset field keeps HANA's default (~80%) fuzziness for broader free-text discovery.Ruchi5, published 2026-07-27

It also walks through an @open entity that accepts properties the model never declared, and reading temporal data defined with CAP's temporal aspect, where a plain read returns only what is valid now and a custom handler is needed to retrieve every time slice.vvdries, published 2024-12-23

BEHAVIOR_ILLEGAL_STATEMENT dump | Technical workaroundsBEHAVIOR_ILLEGAL_STATEMENT dump | Technical workaroundsThe BEHAVIOR_ILLEGAL_STATEMENT dump fires in SAP RAP when an explicit COMMIT WORK or ROLLBACK WORK, or a direct database write, collides with RAP's own transactional model: a Logical Unit of Work split into an interaction phase, where changes sit in a transactional buffer, and a save sequence that validates and persists them. The post then names four ways to move the offending statement into a separate task instead — the Background Processing Framework, parallel processing, Application Jobs, or, on-premise only, a wrapper RFC function module called with DESTINATION 'NONE' — pointing to further reading for each rather than working through any of them here.PranayGaroo, published 2025-08-11
BO Interface APIs : An alternative to BAPIs and traditional FMsBO Interface APIs : An alternative to BAPIs and traditional FMsWalks through updating an S/4HANA Purchase Order's line items through a released BO interface instead of a BAPI, using EML against the underlying CDS entity and a COMMIT ENTITIES statement because the call sits outside a behavior class. Mastering Internal Actions in SAP RAP: Automatic Header Calculation in ABAP CloudMastering Internal Actions in SAP RAP: Automatic Header Calculation in ABAP CloudWalks through a sales-order BDEF where an item-level determination triggers a header-only internal action by EML in local mode, so a quantity or price change recalculates the order total and applies a 10% discount above $10,000 without a UI button or external OData call reaching the logic directly. Argues for an internal action over inline determination code on reusability and separation of concerns: a determination decides when logic runs, the action decides what runs, and marking it internal keeps Fiori Elements and external OData clients from invoking it.sharathtm, published 2026-08-06
ABAP code to wait for the end of "inbound bgRFC type Q" unitsABAP code to wait for the end of "inbound bgRFC type Q" unitsWalks through inbound bgRFC type Q — ABAP's queue-based flavor of async processing built on background remote function calls — and gives a helper ABAP class that polls cl_qrfc_client_inbound for each unit's and queue's state until every unit submitted across a set of parallel qRFC queues has finished. The method assumes no single unit spans more than one inbound queue, and the author flags the classes it relies on, cl_qrfc_client_inbound=>get_unit_state and get_queue_state, as unverified for this use.Sandra_Rossi, published 2025-10-07

Cloud-Native with ABAP Cloud – The Transactional Outbox PatternCloud-Native with ABAP Cloud – The Transactional Outbox PatternImplements the transactional outbox pattern in ABAP Cloud's background processing framework (bgPF): a RAP business object's save sequence registers a bgPF handler implementing IF_BGMC_OP_SINGLE, and the RAP runtime runs it, and only then emits the message, after the database commit succeeds, so a rolled-back transaction emits nothing. DIY JDBC Sender Adapter for SAP Integration SuiteDIY JDBC Sender Adapter for SAP Integration SuiteSimulates the JDBC Sender Adapter that SAP Integration Suite dropped from SAP PO by polling a source database with a Request/Reply step, triggered by a configurable scheduler or a manual HTTP call, and writing the result to a DataStore or JMS Queue to decouple polling from mapping and insertion. Retries run against a configured maximum, a failed batch escalates to a Dead Letter Queue once they are exhausted, and a mapping failure skips retries and escalates straight away from its own local subprocess. The author reports migrating several SAP PO scenarios onto this flow design and offers a reusable template on request.lanza, published 2025-10-21
Event Mesh + AMQP: The Retry Trap Nobody Warns You AboutEvent Mesh + AMQP: The Retry Trap Nobody Warns You AboutWorks through two patterns for retrying failed messages from Event Mesh's AMQP sender adapter on Cloud Integration, whose native retry has no configurable delay or backoff: bridging into a JMS queue for full exponential-backoff control, or looping messages through a dedicated retry queue with a TTL and a Dead Message Queue. Compares both against a Groovy sleep() workaround that blocks the adapter's connection and the runtime's worker thread, and shows that Advanced Event Mesh's own adapter ships configurable retry interval, backoff and broker-side redelivery without either workaround.MateuszPiotrowski, published 2026-03-09
Quick tip: event/task scheduling in CAP Node.js (in alpha state)Quick tip: event/task scheduling in CAP Node.js (in alpha state)A note on something spotted in capire's May 2025 release notes rather than a technique: CAP Node.js is to support scheduling events — actions and functions included — with callbacks, currently alpha and explicitly subject to change.

CAP: Consume External Service – Part 3CAP: Consume External Service – Part 3Built to work around CAP limitations at the time — OData-only external services, no custom headers, no complex OData queries — the post walks through cdse, the author's own module that resolves a named destination from the CAP project's configuration and calls axios directly, so a handler reads the same way whether it is tested locally against a raw URL or deployed against SAP Cloud Platform's Destinations service. A 2022 update at the top of the post calls it obsolete, since the CAP framework has since addressed the limitations it set out to work around. Indexed as one entry because the parts only make sense in order.SAP
Extending SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 Using CAPExtending SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 Using CAPAn extension target that does not run on BTP at all — Sales and Service Cloud V2 sits directly on hyperscalers — so the separation between core and extension is enforced rather than encouraged. That constraint is what makes the post worth reading.Quablab, published 2025-07-09
From REST to Datasphere: A CAP-based Integration ApproachFrom REST to Datasphere: A CAP-based Integration ApproachThe reverse direction and a second attempt: the authors had already written data into Datasphere with a small FastAPI service on the OPEN SQL schema, and this is what changed when they rebuilt it on CAP.christian_willi, published 2025-09-30
Fullstack CAP Application with HANA Cloud (Decoupled Architecture) [Part-5]Fullstack CAP Application with HANA Cloud (Decoupled Architecture) [Part-5]The consequence of decoupling: with the back end live on its own Cloud Foundry route, the front end needs a BTP destination to reach it rather than a relative path. Short, and it is the join the architecture creates.sanjucs, published 2026-05-18
Hey ABAP Cloud please let me save my data export to Azure Storage please🥺🙏- part 4Hey ABAP Cloud please let me save my data export to Azure Storage please🥺🙏- part 4Walks through reaching Azure Blob Storage from ABAP Cloud without an intermediary Cloud Foundry app: an OAuth2 client credentials flow against Microsoft Entra ID, driven either through cl_http_destination_provider and the SAP Destination service at subaccount or Cloud Foundry-space level, or through the SAP_COM_0276 communication scenario and Communication Management. Notes that SAP marks the destination-service route deprecated for ABAP Cloud even though it alone offers management APIs and cross-tenant reuse, and closes on automating the resulting client-secret rotation with Azure Key Vault.published 2023-11-21

The correction is why it is worth keeping.NilsJanen, published 2022-11-09
Implementing Dynamic Subaccount-Based Routing in SAP CAP with SAP BTP DestinationsImplementing Dynamic Subaccount-Based Routing in SAP CAP with SAP BTP DestinationsWhy environment variables are the wrong place for backend endpoints in a CAP application, and what replaces them: cockpit destinations resolved at runtime, with the subaccount or instance identified as the request is handled. The argument is about redeployment — an endpoint kept in the environment means a deploy every time it moves — and the shape it produces is one codebase serving several landscapes without a build per landscape.Dnyaneshwar Salve, published 2026-03-18
Microsoft Sentinel for SAP goes agentlessMicrosoft Sentinel for SAP goes agentlessExplains how Microsoft Sentinel for SAP's new agentless data connector drops its Docker-based collector agent by reusing an existing SAP Cloud Connector setup together with SAP Integration Suite: on SAP NetWeaver 750 and later, a small set of RFC function modules must be reachable from Integration Suite, added as an RFC connection in the subaccount's Destinations maintenance view, with a user authorised to call them (RFC connectivity). It also covers calling the audit log API remotely, which on older releases needs SAP note 3054326 and a different integration-package configuration.published 2024-12-17
No-Code MCP Servers with SAP Integration Suite: From REST API to AI AgentNo-Code MCP Servers with SAP Integration Suite: From REST API to AI AgentWalks through turning a deployed API artifact into a no-code MCP server in SAP Integration Suite's MCP Gateway: the API artifact's OpenAPI spec must be version 3.0.0-3.0.3, since Swagger 2.0 is rejected, and its backend is reached through a BTP Destination using OAuth2ClientCredentials so the agent calling the server never sees the backend secret. The API artifact's own Authorization policy sets an OAuth scope and Trust Upstream MCP Authorization, and the gotcha list traces a 403 on a valid token to that policy rather than to authentication, before the finished MCP server is published through Developer Hub and connected to Claude Code.eddiedu, published 2026-09-15
Part 2: Architecting SaaS Resilience Against S/4HANA VariancePart 2: Architecting SaaS Resilience Against S/4HANA VarianceThe unspoken problem it names is a good one: a multitenant SaaS application faces not one S/4HANA but every customer's, each at a different release with different extensions. What resilience means when the backend varies per tenant.michal_majer, published 2025-10-20

Principal Propagation from BTP Web App to S/4HANA via SAP Integration SuitePrincipal Propagation from BTP Web App to S/4HANA via SAP Integration SuiteWalks through configuring principal propagation from a BTP web app, through SAP Integration Suite and Cloud Connector, to an on-premise S/4HANA system, so the backend receives calls as the logged-in user rather than a shared service account. The BTP Destination service uses OAuth2JWTBearer to exchange the user's Cloud Identity Services JWT for an Integration Suite token, and the iFlow's OData V2 receiver adapter reaches S/4HANA through Cloud Connector with Principal Propagation authentication. The Cloud Connector Subject Pattern builds the outbound certificate's CN from the token's user_name claim, which is populated from the IAS email rather than the sub claim, so identity resolution on S/4HANA hinges on that email matching a resolvable logon name.Joni, published 2026-07-10
SAP BTP Destinations in a Nutshell Part 1 - Motivation & NoAuthentication DestinationsSAP BTP Destinations in a Nutshell Part 1 - Motivation & NoAuthentication DestinationsOpens a series on SAP BTP Destinations by walking through the simplest case, a NoAuthentication destination from one CAP Node.js app to another on Cloud Foundry, shown two ways: executeHttpRequest from @sap-cloud-sdk/http-client, and a manual sequence that reads the destination service's credentials from VCAP_SERVICES, fetches an OAuth token, and requests the destination by name before calling its URL. The manual path is written deliberately verbose to show what the Cloud SDK call does behind the scenes; later parts of the series cover the other destination types.JakobFra, published 2023-05-23
SAP BTP Platform Technical User for CTMS IntegrationSAP BTP Platform Technical User for CTMS IntegrationWalks through creating a technical user in Cloud Identity Services (IAS) as a custom identity provider, adding it to a subaccount's org, space and role collections, and switching a Destinations entry's authentication to OAuth2Password with the Cloud Foundry login endpoint as token service URL and an origin property naming the custom IDP. The technical user lets CI/CD pipelines, API calls and transport automation authenticate without human credentials, keeping service accounts separate from people for audit and access control.Marudhu999, published 2026-03-09

Sending Emails from SAP CAP Applications with Any SMTP ProviderSending Emails from SAP CAP Applications with Any SMTP ProviderWalks through sending mail from a CAP application with no dedicated mail service: create an SMTP destination for a Gmail account in the SAP BTP cockpit, bind it to the Cloud Foundry app, and call the sap-cf-mailer npm package from a CAP service handler naming that destination. The SAP Destination service holds the SMTP host, port and app password so the handler code names only the destination, and the same handler sends plain text, an HTML body, or a message with a base64-encoded attachment.MaheshSirsat1708, published 2025-08-19

Surviving and Thriving with the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model: Local development hurdlesSurviving and Thriving with the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model: Local development hurdlesThree hurdles in running a CAP application locally: services mocked with cds run --with-mocks return no data across OData associations until the ON clause is hand-written into the imported CDS, an on-premise API reached through the SAP Cloud Connector times out because its proxy is part of destinations and connectivity and reachable only from inside SAP BTP, and a Fiori frontend served from the HTML5 Application Repository needs the HTML5 Repo Mock to reach a local backend at all. It closes with the launch configurations the author uses for debugging cds watch locally and attaching to a running Cloud Foundry instance.maxstreifeneder, published 2023-02-02
UI for the BTP Application Vulnerability ReportUI for the BTP Application Vulnerability ReportAn open-source SAPUI5 front end for SAP's Application Vulnerability Report API, backed by a CAP Node.js service that projects the external findings as an OData V4 entity and forwards each query with api.run(req.query). The CAP service reaches that API through a Destination service instance configured with OAuth2ClientCredentials authentication from a service key, so the address and credentials stay out of the application code.published 2026-02-10
Use REST services in GraphUse REST services in GraphSAP Graph turns a REST service into a business data graph by pairing a data destination with a metadata destination that supplies its OpenAPI document, since plain REST has no $metadata endpoint of the kind OData exposes. It walks through creating both destinations on SAP BTP, including the OAuth2ClientCredentials authentication needed when the OpenAPI file is hosted through an API artifact, and shows how Graph flattens each REST operation's path and method into an unbound OData action or function, such as turning a DELETE on /users/pets into a POST to users_pets__delete.florian_moritz, published 2026-01-20

Useful CAP CDS and Fiori Commands to Accelerate Development and DeploymentUseful CAP CDS and Fiori Commands to Accelerate Development and DeploymentA command-by-command walkthrough of @sap/cds-dk's cds add and fiori add generators: cds add xsuaa writes an XSUAA security configuration from the CDS model's authorization annotations, and cds add hana together with cds deploy --to hana switches persistence from the default SQLite database to SAP HANA Cloud. cds add mta and fiori add deploy-config, from @sap/generator-fiori, build the Cloud Foundry deployment descriptor together, adding a destination-service block and an xs-app.json that routes the Fiori app's calls through a named destination.TiaXu, published 2022-10-19
Using RFC Function Modules and BAPIs in SAP Build Process AutomationUsing RFC Function Modules and BAPIs in SAP Build Process AutomationWalks through calling an S/4HANA BAPI (BAPI_BILLINGDOC_CREATEMULTIPLE, to create a billing document) from an SAP Build Process Automation action: mapping the virtual host to the internal system in SAP Cloud Connector over the RFC protocol and exposing the needed function modules, then creating an RFC-type destination in the BTP cockpit with the virtual message server and SMLG logon group. Once those two are in place, SAP Build lists the exposed BAPIs and RFCs for use in an action.MrRaj, published 2026-07-09
从BTP Launchpad里的sapui5应用里调用部署的CPI IFLOW从BTP Launchpad里的sapui5应用里调用部署的CPI IFLOWA short follow-up to the author's earlier post on calling a deployed CPI iflow from a standalone-router SAPUI5 app, adjusted for the case where the app runs inside the BTP Launchpad: the fetch call is built from the launchpad component's own base URI, and the app's xs-app.json approuter route maps a /cpi/* path to a destination that fronts the CPI iflow runtime, with XSUAA authentication on the route. It also walks the MTA build and cf deploy commands used to push the app, scaffolded with generator-easy-ui5, to BTP.Jacky_Liu1, published 2023-06-13
A cross application Fiori APP to print Adobe FormsA cross application Fiori APP to print Adobe FormsWalks through building a custom Fiori app that turns an existing Adobe print form (purchase orders, billing documents) into a downloadable PDF: a function module calls the standard form-data-provider interface to render the form, a SEGW OData service streams the result through a media entity's GET_STREAM, and a parameterised CDS view feeds a Fiori elements list with a download link per document. Two custom Z-tables supply the name-value pairs the form template needs, which the author flags as a stopgap for values that could be derived at runtime instead.padchalingam, published 2025-07-22
A method to create an Adobe form attachment for a work item using the class concept.A method to create an Adobe form attachment for a work item using the class concept.Walks through an ABAP workflow class, ZCL_WF_PDF, whose methods call an Adobe form through a Form-Builder-generated function module, convert the returned PDF between hexadecimal string and binary with SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY and SCMS_BINARY_TO_XSTRING, and attach it to a work item via SAP_WAPI_ATTACHMENT_ADD and SAP_WAPI_WRITE_CONTAINER, with the class, background-task and SWDD workflow steps shown in full. It explains document output's ABAP route, rendering a PDF through the Form Builder and getting it back into the program, and a route into attachments's ABAP side distinct from Generic Object Services: a file attached to an SAP Business Workflow work item instead.Mithun_Sharma1, published 2026-08-21

Custom Form with Custom Data Source in SAP Public Cloud (Grow with SAP)Custom Form with Custom Data Source in SAP Public Cloud (Grow with SAP)Builds a custom Adobe-based output form for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition when SAP ships no standard data source: a RAP business object exposes header and item CDS views through a service definition, one view marked as the form's data provider, and the layout is designed offline in Adobe LiveCycle Designer against the exported XML schema before upload and rendering back in the tenant. It draws the line against SAP Forms Service by Adobe on BTP, which the post sets aside in favour of building the form inside the S/4HANA Cloud system itself.Gourab_Dey, published 2026-01-15
Generating Adobe Form Using RAP framework OData ServicesGenerating Adobe Form Using RAP framework OData ServicesModels a RAP root view entity and consumption view over a custom sales-order table, built with ABAP CDS, and exposes it through a service definition and an OData V2 UI service binding. A separate SEGW project implements GET_STREAM to call an Adobe Form driver class and stream the rendered PDF back as the response, with a computed link field added to the CDS view so the UI can open it. The PDF is generated in the backend and returned to the calling program rather than sent straight to a printer.Megastar, published 2025-03-18

Walks through opening the spool job with FP_JOB_OPEN, generating each form via its FP_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME-resolved function module, adding each result's xstring to the merger with add_document, then calling merge_documents and converting the result for GUI_DOWNLOAD or printing.MiljanDjuric, published 2025-06-17
On‑the‑Fly Excel Download in a RAP Fiori App — No Database Table, No Persistence, Pure CDS + ABAPOn‑the‑Fly Excel Download in a RAP Fiori App — No Database Table, No Persistence, Pure CDS + ABAPBuilds a CDS custom entity backed by an ABAP class that implements IF_RAP_QUERY_PROVIDER and assembles an XLSX workbook at request time — hand-built from Open XML parts with cl_abap_zip for multiple sheets, or in one line via cl_salv_table=>to_xml for one — then streams it to the browser through the @Semantics.largeObject annotation.
