com.sap.cds:cds-feature-advanced-event-mesh

A beta CAP Java plugin that adds SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh as a messaging broker, activated by setting a messaging service's kind to aem.

Adds SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh as a messaging broker for CAP Java, so events sent through CAP's messaging service reach a Solace-based broker that can also integrate non-SAP systems. The Maven dependency goes into srv/pom.xml, and setting a messaging service's kind to aem in application.yaml activates it. The broker itself is created by hand in SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh, trust to the application is established through SAP Cloud Identity Services, and the broker's credentials reach the plugin as a user-provided service instance named advanced-event-mesh. CAP's documentation marks the plugin beta, alongside its Node.js counterpart @cap-js/advanced-event-mesh.

Receive messages from an Apache Kafka topicRecords that another system writes to a topic on an Apache Kafka cluster reach a handler in the application, which processes each one as an event.Node.js, JavaCovers, under conditionsbroker client
What it does

Connects CAP Java's messaging service to SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh once a messaging service's kind is aem. The README does not mention Kafka: the plugin receives what the broker delivers.

Conditions

A Kafka Receiver on the advanced event mesh broker publishes the Kafka records to a broker topic the application subscribes to

Remaining work

Add the Maven dependency, bind the application to the broker's validation service instance, and subscribe to the broker topic the Kafka Receiver publishes to.

Table of Contents

Requirements

See Getting Started on how to jumpstart your development and grow as you go with SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP). To learn about messaging in CAP, please consult the guide on Events & Messaging.

Setup

Install the plugin by adding it to the dependencies of your CAP Java project:

<!-- srv/pom.xml -->
<dependency>
  <groupId>com.sap.cds</groupId>
  <artifactId>cds-feature-advanced-event-mesh</artifactId>
  <version>${latest-version}</version>
</dependency>

The latest version can be found in the changelog or in the Maven Central Repository. The usage of CAP Java plugins is described in the CAP Java Documentation.

Then, set the kind of your messaging service to aem:

# srv/src/main/resources/application.yaml
cds:
  messaging.services:
  - name: "messaging-name"
    kind: "aem"
Setting Up the Broker

The broker itself must be created manually in SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh and trust must be established to the respective application in SAP Cloud Identity Services, both for the Solace broker and the SEMP API. For details, please consult SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh's documentation at help.pubsub.em.services.cloud.sap and help.sap.com.

Specifically, you need to configure SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh to allow your CAP application to connect to the broker. For this, follow guide CAP Plugin for SAP Integration Suite, Advanced Event Mesh.

Finally, the broker's credentials must be provided via a user-provided service instance with the name advanced-event-mesh and credentials in the following format:

{
  "authentication-service": {
    "tokenendpoint": "https://<ias host>/oauth2/token",
    "clientid": "<client id>",
    "clientsecret": "<client secret>"
  },
  "endpoints": {
    "advanced-event-mesh": {
      "uri": "https://<broker host>:<port>",
      "amqp_uri": "amqps://<broker host>:<port>"
    }
  },
  "vpn": "<vpn>"
}

To troubleshoot connection issues, set log level for component com.sap.cds.messaging to DEBUG. Check Operating CAP Java Applications → Observability for how to maintain log levels.

Broker Validation

Your app must be bound to an instance of service SAP Integration Suite, advanced event mesh with plan aem-validation-service. Please see Validation of VMR Provisioning for more information.

Additional Configuration Options

Additional configuration options for the messaging service are:

PropertyTypeDescription
cds.messaging.services.<key>.connection.properties.skipManagementbooleanIf set to true, the plugin will not create a queue or subscription. This is useful if you want to manage these resources manually, default: false
cds.messaging.services.<key>.connection.properties.subaccountIdStringIf set to a subaccount ID, the plugin will call the validation service with that given value, default: null
