Change promotion
Moving a change through the environments of a landscape, from development through test to production, and knowing which change has reached which environment. A CI/CD pipelineCI/CD pipelinesA pipeline that builds, tests and delivers an application each time its source repository changes, with a build log that shows which step failed. Deployment describes getting the build onto its target runtime.SAP only builds and tests on each source change, deploymentDeploymentGetting an application onto a runtime and keeping it there: build descriptors, deployment topology, service bindings and lifecycle operations. The target runtime determines how the application is packaged and configured.SAP and community, narrow by design puts a build onto its runtime, and getting source into git is source controlSource controlKeeping source code and development objects in version control, comparing their revisions, and moving them between development environments. Managed delivery of changes belongs to transport management.SAP and community, community owns it.
Overview
capire's CI/CD guide deploys to a staging subaccount on a push to the main branch and to a separate production environment when a release is published, with the target account in repository or organisation variables. A CAP project built as a Multitarget Application can also be promoted through SAP Cloud Transport ManagementSAP Cloud Transport ManagementMoves software deliverables between SAP BTP accounts along a modelled landscape of transport nodes and routes: Multitarget Application archives, and application-specific content such as SAP Cloud Integration iFlows.sap official, btp, to which SAP Continuous Integration and DeliverySAP Continuous Integration and DeliveryA BTP service that runs SAP's predefined CI/CD pipelines for designated SAP development projects, building, testing and deploying the changes pushed to a connected Git repository.sap official, btp uploads the archive.
Not covered: At the pipeline's convention: which branch or release reaches which subaccount is the workflow's. The upload to the transport service is documented for SAP's CI/CD service in SAP Learning; the parts of capire's CI/CD guide quoted here do not name the transport service.
No community artifact is documented here.
