Deployment

Getting an application onto a runtime and keeping it there — build descriptors, deployment topology and lifecycle on Cloud Foundry or Kubernetes. Cloud Foundry is buildpacks, a manifest and services bound by name; Kyma is Kubernetes with SAP's modules, containers and Helm. Which of the two a subaccount runs decides how every service is bound, how logs are shipped and which tooling applies: an MTA targets one, a Helm chart the other.

@cap-js/cap-operator-plugin Generates Helm charts for deploying CAP applications with the CAP Operator on Kubernetes.

@sap/cds-dk The command line client and development toolkit for CAP projects, with the commands cds build, cds deploy, cds watch and cds add among them.

Not covered: It stops at generating descriptors. Pipelines, environment promotion, and the operational shape of a landscape are left to you and to the platform you chose.

§ 1 License. Productive customer applications are limited to SAP BTP or another SAP-licensed platform, and mass extraction to a non-SAP product is restricted except where solely required for SAP interoperability.
§ 2 Intellectual Property. The agreement retains SAP's rights in the covered materials and limits making APIs, tools or software available to third parties, while preserving ownership of customer applications subject to SAP's underlying rights.

The CAP-specific agreement makes the deployment platform part of the permitted productive-use condition, so deployment choices need the applicable agreement checked rather than treated as purely technical.

@sap/cds-dk 8.9.02025-03-31, CAP

Before this release, deploying to Cloud Foundry or Kyma meant running the build and deploy steps yourself: cds add mta (or cds add helm,containerize for Kubernetes), then npm i, mbt build, and cf deploy or its Kyma equivalent. cds up (beta) now runs that sequence as one command, defaulting to Cloud Foundry or targeting Kubernetes with --to k8s.

Makes stale:

Tutorials that present cds add mta, then mbt build, then cf deploy as the only path. That sequence still works, but since March 2025 cds up does it in one command, and is still beta.
