Analytic modelling
Defining what an analytical client actually reads — the multi-dimensional layer between stored rows and a chart: measures, dimensions, hierarchies, filters and parameters, and the associations somebody navigates them by. Distinct from analytical queriesAnalytical queriesGrouped, aggregated and filtered reads for analytical clients, answered by the database rather than in application memory. This concerns the queries a chart or report sends, while analytic modelling defines the measures and dimensions they read.SAP only, which is a service answering the request a chart sends, and from loading a warehouseLoading a warehouseGetting data into an analytical store and keeping it current — connections to source systems, replication and the other integration tasks, import jobs and their lifecycle, and the monitoring that tells you a load failed before a report does. Distinct from replication, which is an application reading data that lives elsewhere as if it were local rather than a warehouse being filled.SAP and community, unassessed, which fills the tables underneath it.
Overview
SAP's analytical products carry the modelling layer themselves. In Datasphere an analytic model is built in the Data Builder over facts and other analytic models, with pre-defined measures, hierarchies, filters, parameters and associations, and is described as the analytical foundation for consumption in SAP Analytics Cloud.
Not covered: At the product's own editor and its own role model — creating one needs a scoped role granting Data Builder privileges in the space. Nothing about the model travels to another vendor's tool, and the semantics are the product's rather than a standard.
SAP's answer here is a product rather than a service you bind, and the products are now entries — Datasphere, Analytics Cloud, Business Data Cloud and HANA Cloud as BTP services, BW/4HANA as an external because it is installed rather than subscribed. Both sides of this assessment are artifacts.
Agent-driven access to that modelling surface, from four directions: BW/4HANA's own modelling objects, Datasphere's views and analytic models, and SAC's models and stories.
