Effective Axios Error Logging for Robust SAP IntegrationsEffective Axios Error Logging for Robust SAP IntegrationsTwo logged failures printed side by side, and the point is made by looking at them: one tells you what went wrong and one does not. Axios buries the useful part of an HTTP error, and this is what to unwrap before logging it from a CAP service.Sahil2508, published 2025-08-31

#BTP #SAPCAP: Quirky Nuggets (N03-N04)#BTP #SAPCAP: Quirky Nuggets (N03-N04)Two unrelated findings in one post, which is the format of the series: the OData operators tried against a CAP service — with a schema of deliberately awkward types to try them on — and undeploying database artifacts, which is the half people hit in anger. The Complete Guide to Calling Actions in UI5 with Custom CodeThe Complete Guide to Calling Actions in UI5 with Custom CodeWritten because the documentation is thin and the samples sparse, and openly as a note to the author's future self — hand-coding an action call has become a rare task for anyone mostly working in Fiori elements, which is exactly why it is hard to look up when it comes round. Comes with a CAP sample project, so the service half is there too.published 2025-07-21
Streaming LLM Output with CAP and WebSocketsStreaming LLM Output with CAP and WebSocketsTokens arriving from the AI SDK's orchestration module, forwarded to the browser as they come rather than after the model finishes. Covers all four pieces — enabling WebSocket support in CAP, a service with actions and events, the streaming itself, and a frontend on the native WebSocket API — which is what makes it the clearest case for why a CAP service would want a socket at all.RobinP, published 2025-11-18

Building an Attachment Upload and Download Solution Using UploadSetwithTable ControlBuilding an Attachment Upload and Download Solution Using UploadSetwithTable ControlThe successor control to UploadSet posts the file in one request by default, and against CAP that is wrong: the record has to be created first and the content put to it afterwards. The author states the two-step shape plainly and notes it may not apply to an ABAP backend, which is the kind of boundary that usually goes unsaid. Written during a proof of concept for a reusable attachment component, and it carries the problem they hit with the control.published 2025-03-13

Presenting sap-cap-sdm-plugin: Effortless Integration Between CAP (Node.js) and DMSPresenting sap-cap-sdm-plugin: Effortless Integration Between CAP (Node.js) and DMSThe author's introduction of the plugin, and unusually clear about its lineage: the idea came from a post about cds.plugins whose example did nothing more than append an emoji to annotated properties, and the groundwork was an earlier library, sap-cloud-cmis-client, that this builds on. Boosting performance in SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) applications with cds-cachingBoosting performance in SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) applications with cds-cachingThe plugin's introduction post: what cds-caching is for, how it is put together and the cases it was written against. The edge holds because the plugin's README still points here as the piece to read first, so this is where a reader arriving at the plugin is sent. It predates version 1.0 and the API has moved since: the read-through calls it shows as cache.run() and cache.send() are the ones the README now lists as deprecated in favour of cache.rt.*, which returns the cache key and hit/miss metadata alongside the result, and 1.0 made user, tenant and locale awareness opt-in under keyManagement rather than folding them into request-based keys by default. Metrics and monitoring, the OData API and full TypeScript definitions arrived with 1.0 and are described in CAP just got faster: What's new in cds-caching 1.0 instead. The reasoning about when a CAP service wants a cache still reads true; the call sites need translating.published 2025-06-25

A CAP Plugin for Flexible Number Range Management: cds-numberrange-pluginA CAP Plugin for Flexible Number Range Management: cds-numberrange-pluginThe author's own plugin, and the reason given for writing it is about plugins rather than about number ranges: a year of using them convinced them that this was the way to extend CAP without leaving marks on the application. The second half is structure — a formatter class and a singleton LayoutManager called from the XML view through core:require, a confirmation helper taking a callback, a dialog class resolving a promise, a generic createEntity<T> on a service class — all of it to keep every controller under 100 lines. Building a Generative AI-powered Inventory Assistant with SAP CAP, RAG, and Vector DatabaseBuilding a Generative AI-powered Inventory Assistant with SAP CAP, RAG, and Vector DatabaseAn existing CAP stock application turned into a question-answering one, and the part worth reading is the schema: three tables, not one — the products, an archive of the text that was embedded, and a separate lookup table holding the vectors. CAP - Dynamically hide UI facets in Fiori ElementsCAP - Dynamically hide UI facets in Fiori ElementsFacets hidden at runtime rather than at design time, which needs two things at once: UI.Hidden on the annotation side and a virtual element on the CDS side to decide it. Both are linked from the post, and it is barely two pages.AjayRathore, published 2023-12-08

Developing SAP Fiori Element application by using SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelDeveloping SAP Fiori Element application by using SAP Cloud Application Programming ModelThe long version, and it starts by naming the floorplans — List Report, Worklist, Object Page, Overview Page, Analytical List Page — which is the decision most walkthroughs skip. Then one of them, built out against a CAP service.shobhit, published 2023-08-07

Fiori Elements Analytical Table with CAP: Does it work with V2 and V4?Fiori Elements Analytical Table with CAP: Does it work with V2 and V4?A question in the title and an answer in the post, with the boundary drawn carefully: this is an analytical table inside a List Report, not the Analytical List Page, and the two protocol versions do not behave the same.published 2023-04-03

How to Control the Visibility of CRUD and Custom Actions in Fiori Elements Based on AuthorizationHow to Control the Visibility of CRUD and Custom Actions in Fiori Elements Based on AuthorizationHiding Create, Edit and custom action buttons according to what the user may actually do — the join between the authorisation model and the annotations, which is where the two usually fail to agree and the UI offers something the service will refuse.published 2025-05-14
Simple Table Maintenance in SAP Fiori Using UI5 Smart ControlsSimple Table Maintenance in SAP Fiori Using UI5 Smart ControlsStarts from SM30 and the table maintenance dialog it generated with almost no code, then asks what the equivalent is now. That framing is the value: a maintenance screen for a custom table was a solved problem in SAP GUI and is not an obviously solved one on Fiori, and the post works through what smart controls give you towards it.published 2025-02-11
Visualizing Your SAP Bill of Materials Using CAP, Fiori elements, and the UI5 Network GraphVisualizing Your SAP Bill of Materials Using CAP, Fiori elements, and the UI5 Network GraphA parent-child structure rendered as a network graph inside a Fiori Elements application, with the CAP service modelling the bill of materials behind it. Useful as one of the few worked examples of putting a non-standard visualisation into an annotation-driven floorplan rather than building a freestyle app around it.published 2025-02-24

Testing SAP Build Process Automation task UI in SAP Business Application StudioTesting SAP Build Process Automation task UI in SAP Business Application StudioA task UI built from the Workflow Task UI template cannot be run in Business Application Studio: it expects the task model and the inbox API as startup parameters, and without them it fails before the view renders. The post shows the error, explains why it happens, and supplies a wrapper that provides the missing context locally, so the alternative to deploying on every change is not deploying on every change.published 2023-10-15
Consuming SAP Build API's made easy with SAP Cloud SDK in your CAP applicationConsuming SAP Build API's made easy with SAP Cloud SDK in your CAP applicationReaching into SBPA from CAP the other way round — reading its tasks and workflows rather than starting them. The author starts from the plain Axios version and says what it costs: the connection and the authentication are the work, not the call. Cloud SDK is used to generate a typed client from the OpenAPI document and then to resolve the connection through either a service binding or a destination, shown for client credentials and for user token exchange.maheshpalavalli, published 2023-02-08

SAP Build Process Automation – Use Principal Propagation in Actions sample: CAP Node.js ServiceSAP Build Process Automation – Use Principal Propagation in Actions sample: CAP Node.js ServiceThe follow-up that carries the identity through. It takes the CAP service from the Actions tutorial and puts the calling user's identity behind it — an XSUAA instance, a trust configuration, an OAuthSAMLBearerAssertion destination, and the service changed to use that instance — so a step runs on behalf of a person rather than as the process.TJe, published 2023-06-22

Extending SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 Using CAPExtending SAP Sales and Service Cloud V2 Using CAPAn extension target that does not run on BTP at all — Sales and Service Cloud V2 sits directly on hyperscalers — so the separation between core and extension is enforced rather than encouraged.
