Klystron

An MCP server written in ABAP that runs inside the application server behind an ICF service and exposes typed tools for ABAP development, quality, transports, customizing, roles, Basis operations and integration, with a client-side plugin of SAP skills.

The MCP server is written in ABAP and runs inside the application server behind an ICF service, so authorizations, execution and the SLG1 log stay on the SAP side under the signed-in user's PFCG roles, and no Klystron service sits between the client and the system. Its tools are typed and grouped by domain: ABAP development through to RAP, syntax check, ATC, ABAP Unit and ST22 dumps, CTS requests and tasks, customizing, PFCG roles, Basis observation, IDocs and web services. Objects are serialised as files in SAP's ABAP File Formats where one exists and in a Klystron format otherwise, so a package becomes a local Git repository; the maker says this does not replace abapGit. A plugin for the MCP client pairs each task with a process skill and a domain skill and loads only the tools they need; the Central Hub for shared findings is announced and not shipped. The page names ECC and S/4HANA and no release floor, the code is not public, and the product is offered through pilots arranged by email.

Agent access to your codeABAPAgent access to your codecapabilityLetting a coding agent read the project or the system you actually have, reach its model, its objects and its checks, and act on it. In file-based environments that works out of the box; complex systems need dedicated access capabilities. Whatever the environment, the agent also needs project- and framework-specific context, so it understands the thing in front of it rather than guessing from what it remembers of its training data. The transport is incidental: an MCP server, a language server or a CLI answer the same question, and what differs between them is how much of the real thing the agent can see. Distinct from [MCP servers](capability:mcp-servers), which is a protocol adapter on your own running service, and from [agent guidance](capability:agent-guidance), which is knowledge handed over as files rather than read from the thing itself.Agent access to your systemsABAPAgent access to your systemscapabilityGiving an AI agent access to the business data, configuration or operations of systems you run through an MCP server. [Serving your application over MCP](capability:mcp-servers) exposes your own service contract; system access reaches the systems behind it, and one implementation may do both. Development assistance belongs to [agent access to your code](capability:agent-code-access).Change promotionABAPChange promotioncapabilityMoving a change through the environments of a landscape, from development through test to production, and knowing which change has reached which environment. A [CI/CD pipeline](capability:ci-cd) builds and tests on each source change, [deployment](capability:deployment) puts a build onto its runtime, and getting source into git is [source control](capability:abap-source-control).Agent guidanceABAPAgent guidancecapabilityPackaged knowledge you hand a coding agent so it gets a framework right unprompted — skills, rule files, instruction packs. Distinct from agent tooling, which is about building agentic features into your application, and from [agent access to your code](capability:agent-code-access), where the agent reads the real project instead of being handed a file about it.

Conditions

PolicySAP API Policy 4.2026a§ 1.1, 1.2, 2.2.2from Agent access to your codeAn MCP server calls ADT or another SAP API of a running system for an agent.
  • § 1.1 Published APIs. Published APIs are made available for the documented purposes identified by SAP, including integration, extensions and data exchange.
  • § 1.2 Non-Published APIs. Customer and third-party applications must not access non-published APIs except where documentation permits it or SAP otherwise authorizes it.
  • § 2.2.2 AI call sequences and data extraction. Outside SAP-endorsed architectures, data services or expressly identified pathways, the policy prohibits specified agentic API use and systematic or large-scale extraction.

An agent that plans and executes ADT calls is the case section 2.2.2 names. Check that the endpoints are published for the intended use, and that the design runs within a pathway SAP identifies for it.

  • Any action that writes, creates, deletes or releases in SAP is blocked until the transport protocol is loaded, for MCP tools and the command line alike.

  • Write tools refuse objects outside the customer namespace (Z, Y).

  • Syntax check before anything is saved; fingerprint and conditional write against concurrent overwrites; read-back after writing.

  • Reading, changing and executing are separate permissions, checked on the server.

  • Simulation before release; ATC and unit tests before releasing code; deletion only with the request that holds the object, after confirmation.

  • Every read goes through its process skill. Dump diagnostics, interface inspection and Basis observation change nothing.

  • They block or stay silent; they never grant a right. The real limit remains the SAP authorizations of the signed-in user and the permissions of your MCP client
