ABAP Development Tools for VS Code

SAP's ABAP tools in VS Code: editing, debugging, ABAP Unit, ATC and transports for classes, CDS and RAP objects, over RFC to an on-premise or Private Cloud system and HTTP to a cloud one, with Joule's ADT MCP server and code completion behind an AI-unit licence.

ADT for Eclipse in a second editor, for the ABAP Cloud development model. The extension edits classes, interfaces, dictionary objects, function groups, programs, the CDS object types and the RAP objects, with completion, navigation, hover and a formatter; it debugs across ABAP servers, runs ABAP Unit and ATC, searches and activates objects, works in the ABAP file format and manages transports. It connects over RFC to an on-premise or SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition system and over HTTP to SAP BTP ABAP environment or SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. The AI side is SAP Joule for Developers, ABAP AI capabilities: the ADT MCP Server and predictive code completion, which need an additional licence. Published by SAP SE under the SAP Developer License Agreement; 1.1.2 on the marketplace since 2026-05-29.

What it does

Holds the logged-on ABAP project the server runs against and mounts the system as a virtual workspace filesystem, which is how the agent reads and edits the ABAP files it is generating around. The MCP tools and that filesystem are two halves of one session.
